2021 AFC North Happenings

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Think Tomlin is so entrenched there that he gets another year or 2 with a new QB and eventually a revamped offensive line.

It's sad because their defense is pretty good when healthy. TJ Watt is an absolute menace. If they took the time to pick a developmental QB in the later rounds then maybe they wouldn't be in this situation. Taking Najee instead of an offensive lineman is just a massive oversight.

If anyone's job should be in question, it should be their front office for saddling Tomlin with a fundamentally broken offense.

Ben is so obviously washed, but I'm also not sure what the Steelers can do about it. Can you really bench him after all these years? I think they just have to ride out the year and then take him out back with a twelve gauge when the season is over like the Giants did with Eli.
The Eli thing was hilarious. At the time I was working in the NYC area and heard all the Donnys from Queens calling WFAN and complaining that Eli didn’t deserve to start and to put in the future QB - Geno Smith. After that game there were outraged outcries from the outer boroughs and counties demanding answers on why they would ever bench St. Eli. NYG had to back down.

I suspect Steeler fans would have a similar reaction if Big Ben was benched.

I still remember when Belichick benched Bernie. Fan base melted down over that (or so we thought at the time; I’ve never seen any fan base in any city react like Browns fans in 1995).

Isn‘t this Ben’s last year under contract? If not they might have to give him the Old Yeller treatment. Figuratively speaking, of course. :chuckle:

Ill be honest i think bringing Ben back was part of an agreement to make sure the Steelers weren't in even worse cap hell. If Ben had retired last year the steelers would have needed to cut another 20 million dollars from their space last year.

Looks like he had $36Mil of dead cap with his latest contract, which means ~$10 mil of dead cap in 2022 if they let him go, if I'm reading that correctly.

2021 Dead Cap: $25,915,000
2022 Dead Cap: $10,360,000

The contract voids after this year automatically, so it's 10 mil in dead cap regardless.

I think the Steelers bye week is week 7. Their schedule is pretty tough until then. That would be a logical time to make the move in order to give extra time to prepare coming out of the bye.

Serious question:

“Donny” is what you call generic guys from Queens? Or NYC in general? Or is this a specific type of dude? What’s that reference to?

This is a new phenomenon to me.

People that live in Manhattan have sterotypes about the bridge and tunnel shmucks.

"Joey" is from Brooklyn. Works for his uncle. Amazed that the Nets jumped the river. Still sore about the Dodgers. Uses a gallon of hair gel each day.
"Donnie" is from Queens. Has a slightly better job than Joey . Dates girls with giant hair but really is in love with the Giants & Mets.
"Mikey" is from Hoboken. Loves the Jets. Drives his car into Manhattan on Friday evening, honks his horn all night long while blocking traffic because that's what he thinks the locals do.

Who's the stereotypical Staten Islander, who thinks he's more Italian than anyone from Italy, and does nothing but talk shit about Staten Island, but will fight anyone else if they say something about the island? "Hey, that's OUR island!"

The two names that immediately popped to mind were Mikey and Joey, but they're both already being used. I think Staten Island gets Joe/Joey (short for Giuseppe--it's a family name) while you need a new Brooklyn name.

You’ve all sadly missed my reference to Donny from Queens. Hint: At one time he employed #17.

Mikey “The Situation” Sorrentino was one of many Staten Islanders on “Jersey Shore.” Staten Island is screwed. It’s connected geographically to NJ not NY (Arthur Kill much narrower than Upper & Lower NY Bay) and by bridges connected to Brooklyn, Bayonne, Elizabeth and Perth Amboy. New Yawkers give them less than zero respect; NJ cares only because it’s on the way to Long Island.

Staten Island IS more Italian than any other county in the USA.

These sound very 80s, early 90s.

Are all these guys kids up to the same old shit?

If you just think of Ben as being the tank commander this year, it all makes a lot more sense from the perspective of the Steelers. Pay him so you don't get accused of disloyalty towards a franchise icon, and just use his last season to help draft his replacement.

Rudolph and Haskins are not the heir apparent.
