I agree. He's got the frame to absorb contact. I feel like he doesn't get the whistles he should when he does go strong, but might be a young-player thing.

I'm not ready to give up on him at all. It is still the preseason and he seems like he is not up to game speed. He was ill at the beginning of camp, so he may not be in game shape yet. I would say Mobley has adapted to game speed faster, which is really impressive.

We all thought Garland and Sexton looked terrible in preseason last year and then they came out guns blazin. We need more time to evaluate, but if he isn't going to shoot open 3's we probably need to get him out of the SL. Last year we prioritized his development, but we can't do that over Mobley this year.

I'm still a big fan, but if he truly needs the ball in his hands to be the best version of himself, he should prob come off the bench at SG.

I wanted Deni. I know some wanted Onyeka Okongwu. Some wanted Tyrese Haliburton. It was a mixed bag. Okoro did pick up steam late but I'm not sure there was a true consensus.

Deni actually has struggled with some of the same concepts the Cavs toss at Okoro. He's better with the ball in his hands versus being a spot up shooter as well. I think Okoro will be fine for us once Mobley becomes a better scorer. Right now, we just can't have him out there being hesitant when Mobley also isn't shooting.

I do think Aaron Nesmith will be pretty decent as well. I would take him over okoro right now.
I wouldn't. Nesmith can't guard anyone. If neither player improves, then they're both bench players. If Okoro can get his shot falling, he'll be an all star. It's the gamble you make when you draft that type of player. None of Brown, Butler, or Leonard shot well their rookie seasons.

Avdija is trash same as Okoro has been difference is Okoro played all season against really good starters and Avdija couldn't get the minutes on a delusional treadmill team wasting his development.
Both have similar upsides imo

Right Nesmith can really fill need this team lacks though , he can fucking shoot . Okoro will never have a shot that good but Nesmith will never be a high caliber athlete so pick your poisons. It is not about which one can be an allstar because neither will ever be that.

He shot okay last season. 37% from 3 on 2.3 attempts per game. He only shot .438 from the floor overall. He was a rookie as well, but that's not type of the shooting that gets you into a starting lineup if you're a bad defender.

I didn't say I would still want Deni. At the time of the draft that was who I wanted. But Deni has one difference with Okoro which is actual wing size. I still don't think Okoro will ever be anything. And Deni will likely be back overseas in 5 years or so.

i think Okoro needs a lot more then a jumpshot to become an allstar :chuckle:

In 4 meaningless preseason games he’s had a 2, 0, 9, and 12 points, didn’t look great in Summer league either. If he gets a jumpshot he becomes an NBA player

I think he's a defensive specialist guarding the one or two position without a jumper. But his first step and handle are both good enough that if he develops enough of a jumper that opponents feel the need to guard him, he'll get opportunities to score off the drive. But if you're not a threat to score from outside, it's really hard to score inside in the NBA as a wing.

Okoro is unselfish to a fault like Darius is sometimes. Needs to attack one guy in the lane every chance he gets and draw fouls.

Well, as has been pointed out here, he does lead the team in 3PA. I think the reason he doesn't try to finish inside more is less that he's unselfish, and more that he knows he just isn't very good at it.

Whoa he is leading in 3PA? Did not know that.

I saw several times where he wasn't taking it to the rim in transition against one guy. He has been good drawing fouls and that has really helped with his % at the rim. He finishes about as well as Sexton. Not bad. Not great.

I thought he was a better athlete, like elite level. Come to find he's just a very good athlete. If he doesn't get a clear path you don't see those power finishes. I still contend regarding him, he's better at the top of the key and attacking that way. I would space the guard out to the corners to allow for some of that to occur IF you want Okoro to excel.
