Cav have so many more defensive players this year, and they are deeper and are less sensitive to Love being hurt as a major cog or Nance. Now, it's possible to have an injury riddled season again, but I have not personally seen so many players from a team out as last year.
talent
I have to think even with the East improving that the Cavs are going to be significantly better. This is only 3 + wins from last year even though there will be 10 more games and the team is healthy again.

I really think the overall talent on the team has increased. The bench is without question significantly better.

Defense has increased, but this is the opinion I am least confident in

Offensive talent was increased by addition of Markannen and Rubio and I have to think there will be some internal growth. Windler hopefully helps teh offense as well and maybe the defense.

I think provided there aren't catastrophic injuries again across the board where multiple positions are wiped out at the same time, the Cavs will easily hit the over. Question for me is whether the east is so good that they don't even sniff the play in with 30 wins or so
I have to disagree with you. We traded perhaps our best defensive player, Nance, for a guy that would upgrade our shooting & offense, in Markkanen. Mobley will make his presence felt blocking & affecting shots, but he's also going to be bullied by vets as a rookie. Okoro is probably miscast guarding SF's and would be better guarding opposing SG's, but, as long as we have the pint-sized SexLand backcourt and until we can find a SF, he's gonna have to fill that spot. Rubio isn't exactly known for his defense.

Philly definitely looks bad. They threw Simmons under the bus after the playoffs and made it very clear they wanted to trade him.

Of course he doesn't want to play.
I feel like Simmons called their bluff by showing up and now it's Philly's move. A divorce seems inevitable as Philly fans will eat Simmons alive and probably boo him to no end. However, Morey can't bring himself to trade Simmons for what other teams are offering, which means both parties may have to suck it up and accept that things will be awkward for awhile. Maybe this all blows over, but I really doubt it, as I don't think the Philly fans will allow it to, making home games a nightmare for Simmons.

Simmons is the one whose bluff was called. They fined him and he gave up his holdout. He’s out a million bucks for nothing.

There is some truth in what you claim about roster line up optimization despite not recognizing Love is still on this roster, Windler is finally healthy it seems, and they can easily stagger Sexland if they don't produce. But saying Rubio isn't known for his defense is a weird and really bad take.

The only way Simmons stays a 76'er is if he suddenly starts jacking up 3s and making them. He will be booed no matter where he goes though if he doesn't which seems to be the most likely outcome since he was willing to throw a playoff series to avoid being the guy who lost it missing free throws. I am really surprised anyone on this board is even remotely interested in someone as low character as Simmons has proven to be. Especially after this org dumped a similar head case for a top55 protected despite also having some elite skills.
I bet the so called Cavs current interest in Simmons is in fact all lies at this point.

We traded a guy who is very good at defense and drafted a dude to replace him that is very good at defense. I honestly would have called this a hot take and said no way Mobley is better or even as good as Nance coming in. Just pre-season, but the kid looks like he can impact the defense now. What I have seen from him and Jarrett so far looks a lot like when Drummond and Nance were killing it beginning of last year.

I doubt they are top 10 in defense, but they will be 15 or higher is my guess.

The offense is going to run better with Rubio. I can't see how the bench ends up worse than last year.

We still have holes at the wing for sure, but Okoro is a year older and Windler is healthy.

Rubio was the 8th best pg defender in 2020. Had a down year last year, but he said he had issues with health all year last year as well as conditioning issues from Covid. He has looked very good so far to me. I really think he is going to help mitigate the defensive issues with the backcourt greatly.

I am not saying that this tea is going to be the Hawks, but I do think they will win 30 games. If they don't JB should be fired.

I wouldn’t say Simmons is low character unless you mean in a sports context only. He just isn’t interested in doing anything other than “playing” basketball. He does not have a pro athlete mindset at all.

One aspect of the Sixers - Simmons issue s the coaching change. Brett Brown coached down under and was pretty gentle in his handling of Simmons. Doc, while a players’ coach, was not so gentle and does not have the relationship with Ben that Brett did. Nevertheless, BOTH Brett and Doc PLEADED with Ben to shoot in games - the ask was ONE 3 point attempt per game. Ben won’t do it.

What is hilarious to me are those people that want us to get Ben and evidently think JBB can succeed where those two couldn’t. He would be a failure here and then the screams for blood would be almost as bad as the Baker Mayfield thread.

It's hard to count on two guys (Love & Windler) who are seemingly always injured. If they provide anything, it's a bonus. Rubio is a professional, who will help steady the team and get the young guys some good looks. He's always been an excellent passer and his offense is more of an afterthought, unlike Garland & Sexton, who will look for their shot, first.

I think the Cavs need to make a decision on who's gonna be their point guard- Garland or Sexton and trade the other guy. This backcourt just isn't sustainable and if we have to suffer through another year of it then it's gonna hurt the eyes and it won't benefit any of the other young guys. Getting Rubio more PT is honestly what will help the young guys the most.

Simmons threw himself under the bus with his play. His teammates, the fans and the NBA as a whole all saw the playoffs for themselves. The only thing Rivers did wrong was not lie to cover for him.

Eddie Johnson just tore Kyrie Irving a new one on NBA radio. As Eddie pointed out, it’s always something with this guy. He’s never happy, you can’t count on him to play and he lets his teammates down because he can’t decide if he’s in or out. His Instagram statement was not coherent.

Bottom line with Kyrie is that he can’t be trusted to play. Forget owners, GMs, coaches, media and even fans - so many of his peers are tired of his act. Ben is headed down the same road.

Guys like Ben and Kyrie are taking away from the game. It’s bad drama. Boo.

What the hell is it with flashy NBA players born in Australia?
