New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Halfway through a Leftovers re-watch. Loved it the first time. Loving it now. Any RCF Leftover fans(Im sure I just don't remember past conversations in this thread about it)

A girl lured me into watching season 1 of You with her when it first came out and although it's not my in my wheelhouse, I still watched it and enjoyed it enough.

I think Dexter benefitted from being a good show in an era without a lot of competition. Not sure how it would stack up if it were released now. Several of the main characters were pretty bad actors. But the show's concept is/was inherently interesting.

Anyway, the new episode seemed good. I believe it's only supposed to be one season to "end the series properly". I think they're fighting an uphill battle after how big of a disaster the final season was in getting people to get reinvested enough to really give a damn how the show ends this time around. The tooth paste has been out of the tube for 8 years.

I still haven’t watched the leftovers. I need to check that out

One of the most unique shows I've ever watched. Huge fan and still miffed it didn't get the recognition it deserved. Justin Theroux, Carrie Coon, and Christopher Eccleston never even got any Emmy nominations - lost all faith in any "awards" shows after that farce. Some of the best acting performances HBO has ever put on screen.

Succession S3 is off to a blistering start - I think it's currently the best show on TV.

HBO > Showtime, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Disney+, Apple and any other pretenders. HBO sets the tier.

Stick with it Once you start. For some people, it takes 5-6 episodes until they have that completely sold feeling. I’d say more than some shows, it does really require full attention when watching. But the payoff is huge, the acting is great, the overall three season narrative and exploration of ideas and the sets is awesome, and you will have several WTF moments per season, sometimes per episode.

I started The Shield a few weeks back since I know some of you recommended it. I definitely think it's pretty good to great and I'm just a few episodes into season 3.

I think my real problem with it is that everything moves so fast, there's almost no moment to catch your breath. Which obviously hasn't stopped me from enjoying it. But definitely holds it back from surpassing the holy trinity of BrBa, Sorpranos, and the Wire.

Season 1 is tough for alot of people to watch but you have to get through it to get to where they made it real good in season 2 and 3. Damon Lindelof and the other writers of the show actually listen to the critics and went to make the show more enjoyable in season 2. They actually credit Grantland's podcast, Hollywood Prospectus, which turned into the Watch on The Ringer as the people who set them up to change the show. They said all the writers were fans of the podcast when they talked about other shows and they were willing to listen to the criticism because of that.

The Shield has the best ending in TV history. But overall, yeah, it's below The Wire.

Season 2 and 3 are superior but I still really love Season 1. It hits some of the right moods and themes for me so I was personally all in by the end of the 2nd episode but I can see why a lot of people stop before it hooks them. For me, it's the double whammy of Episode 5 and then the Nora centric ep6 (hopefully that in of itself isn't a spoiler) that really kicks the whole show into gear.

Top 5 easily for me. You’re still early. Gets way better.

Just watched it recently actually. I think beginning of this year.

Whoever made "You" needs to be put behind bars. Jesus christ this series is twisted and annoying the crap out of me.

I love it though.

A lot of setup in episode 1 in New Blood. My biggest question was always how good will this season be without so many of the main characters (I’ve purposely avoided seeing casting decisions). If they do bring back the main cast, how could they possibly make that work?

We got a few answers in episode 1, but it sure seems like this is mostly going to be a brand new storyline with a few references of the past, right? I don’t see a logical way they could do it any differently.

I'll put both replies in spoiler tags

For anyone who has seen episode 1
If I had to guess I'd guess we soon find out Harrison has a "dark passenger" and Dexter maybe helps mentor him in a way that Harry did for Dexter?

@B Mac you won't want to read this one because you mention you have avoided casting decisions but
I am pretty sure I read that they casted John Lithgow, who played the trinity killer in season 4. Like Deb, he's dead, so he'd presumably just be a figment of Dexter's imagination

I don't remember if it is was someone here that recommended Ted Lasso to me, but if so, thank you.

*Eat that ass* and super yay that I finally found a copy of Arliss on the internet. Really loved that show as a kid
