Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yes. Without hesitation. An MVP caliber QB trumps all.

I'm pretty confident Seattle wouldn't be getting Chubb or any of the Browns OL back in the deal, so you'd have Russell Wilson behind an elite OL with a spectacular running game.

Good luck to the rest of the NFL with that.

And you agree this FO would not give up that draft capital, right?

Like this Wilson/Rodgers stuff- it’s great, but this team isn’t giving up the assets. It’s not happening.

It absolutely matters.

Russ has full no trade protection and has quite a bit of say over his next destination.

I don’t know what this costs, but my hope is Mayfield as a cost diffusion makes it palatable for the front office.

Giving up three firsts is an impossible ask, IMO. Unless you’re offsetting that by shipping Mayfield elsewhere for picks as another cost offset mechanism.

I don't expect them to really ask for 3 firsts either. Plus if we're in a scenario where he would want to come here but it's gonna cost us 3 firsts then I feel confident in saying the only player we would be giving up is Baker which means we get Russell Wilson and keep all of the other key players and only swap QB's.

If it's a swap of just QB's and picks.............................

Not overly enthusiastic about including three first rounders in addition to Baker in a trade for a disgruntled QB that's turning 33 this week.

ETA: I could probably be talked into one or two, assuming there's at least some draft capital coming back.

We've never seen this FO go and get their choice of QB yet either so I don't think we can assume how aggressive they will be.

Can I interest you in Ciara coming with him?

And look,

I know y'all think that I'm dunking on Baker right now. I'm not.

But I am finger rolling on his ass.

The biggest issue I have with Baker right now is not even his performance on the field. It's his mentality and his ability to lead as a QB.

I bet if Baker could go back a few weeks he would opt to sit and he'd be coming back this week.

He didn't do that and he's out there playing so fair or not he's gonna get this smoke.

I really think Baker needs to sit on Sunday night and take the bye week to get rested. At a minimum the Browns need a split of these next two games.

Upgrade as the First Lady of Cleveland

Another very underrated element that Russell Wilson would bring to this team is unquestioned leadership. That feeling of knowing that you have a guy that everybody is going to follow no matter what is extremely hard to find.

I know a lot of people thought we had that when we drafted baker and he set some rookie season marks but there's always been question marks about his maturity and leadership. Now Hue Jackson being historically bad here combined with us winning some games last season has put some of those leadership and maturity questions about Baker on the backburner.

But now, faced with some adversity, leadership and maturity issues are starting to pop up again. A lot of drama that could have easily been avoided.

That ship has sailed. You can't sit him Sunday Night against BAL. If case Keenum plays a level above how Baker has played the last two weeks...............

All hell is gonna break loose. I could see a scenario playing out where if Case Keenum plays better than Baker played against NE and DET next week where Baker decided to shut it down. I think Baker is too mentally fragile to handle a scenario where there's a lot of momentum to sit him for performance if Case shows that he can play better than he has in the last two weeks.

I know this sounds like a little conspiracy but I just don't think Baker is mentally prepared to handle sitting Sunday Night only for Case to play better than he has. He walked off the field last night after a win without saying anything. That doesn't sound like a dude who is ready to face the music.

I don't think the Browns would give up 3 first round picks or 6 draft picks in the first two rounds, no.

Doesn't mean that's not the right decision regardless.

My stance would be:

Baker + 2 1sts……

Yes, I’d even buy Emily some 12th man apparel in that deal.

Baker + 3 1sts……

I need one to be HEAVILY, heavily conditioned. Super bowl win, MVP, etc. it has to be elite performance, elite result or both.

I truly don’t think people can wrap their head around what an elite QB would look like here. Think about our offense last year, during that hot run……from a metric standpoint, that wasn’t even elite QB play and the offense was electric. Imagine what a level up from that even is.

I’m less concerned about his play this season. Brady saw a similar dip as his time in NE soured, then he lit the world on fire and won a super bowl with better personnel around him.

Russ would downgrade WR’s, but upgrade everywhere else, considerably IMO. And the scheme fit, for his talent, would be great.

Looking at the QB career arc recently, you’d think Russ has 5 more great years in him. If I knew I could likely get 4-5 years of upper echelon QB play, the price I’m willing to pay is pretty high. Just relative to all the other FO, coaching and personnel pieces.

Rams traded Goff, two firsts and a third for Stafford mostly because that Goff contract was ass.

I wonder if they would do Baker, a '22 draft 2nd and a '23 draft 1st?

The question isn’t so much what Seattle would take. The question is how much another team will pay.

Unless Russ publicly states he’ll only play for the Browns, it is a bidding war. So at that point, it is the market being set by someone.

My guess is the minimum compensation starts at Stafford. Maybe you could get away with Baker, 1st and a 2nd if the org really loved Baker as a bridge guy.

His next team has to pay him, so I don’t think there’s much of a discount, if any, over the Goff deal.
