Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Don't sleep on Denver when it comes to Russ. They are more enticing if you ask me. Young WR core locked up.

I was at the game. The only time it got really loud in the 4th is when the crowd was chanting, "CHUBB! CHUBB! CHUBB!" because we were all terrified what might happen if Baker threw the ball.

That's exactly my point. He was missing passes all game. He didn't get boo'd until the the quarter. He also got cheered loudly when he completed some passes and made some plays. He's acting like he an NBA player who gets boo'd every time he touches the ball on the road. He's acting like we treated him like Kelly Olynick. We did not. he got some boos after he made some really bad plays late in the game. Even then the crowd still supported him when he made plays and we cheered loudly when we wrapped the game up.

He's just being very fragile and throwing more shade at the fans is a quick way for them to turn on him if they haven't already.

Baker is a good example of how mental and physical toughness are separate qualities.

I’ll take heat for this.

Baker’s physical toughness is wildly overrated because it’s clearly affecting every thought process he has.

And, as you go back- everytime something goes bad, the pain is a problem.

The drive where Kevin killed him- my own words? The Lions player on first down didn’t step on his foot. Didn’t push him off balance significantly. Barley hit him. Next two throws? My god the pain! What happened on down one? Over threw an open target.

I would like to see you run that take past his team-mates and see how it flies. That would likely end up with you eating that take.
Probably force fed too, because Los does not eat his bad takes :chuckle:

It's bullshit that I still have to remember his bring in Greg Monroe rants

If it was truly off the record and/or anonymous, I think it'd go differently than you're suggesting...

Correct.

I’m sure his team loved him blowing off the team because he played like shit and the fans were loud. Sure that went over well.

The devil is in the details though, isn't it? I mean, you can "develop" a low round pick so that he may be decent, but that doesn't mean that you can reliably just turn low-rounders into Pro Bowlers. It does happen, but the odds of turning someone into a No. 1 drop the deeper you go into the draft. And it usually takes more time as well.

We drafted Schwartz in the 3rd round, and so far, this team would probably be better off if we'd just passed on the pick.

I think Schwartz is more of a developmental WR with elite speed they’re not leaning on for high volume.

When you think about evaluation, there are a number of guys who have provided instant production at WR from the lower rounds. It up to the staff to find the right fit of someone who can play early and get on the field more often than a “trait” guy like Schwartz.
