Cleveland Guardians Offseason Discussion 2021-22

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I’m not going to argue with you or spend time searching and linking Wander videos to show why I have my opinion. You disagree with me. That’s your prerogative.

Because those clips literally don't exist. He doesn't celebrate, complain, etc. any more than the average player on the Guardians. The title you are giving him is completely unwarranted.

Can somebody provide a specific example of the unsportsmanlike conduct they are against?

Trash talking has been mentioned, but that’s typically a two-way street, and I don’t see anything wrong with that.

However, if a quiet-say nothing pitcher gave up a bomb and the hitters tells him to suck on that, I’d certainly be taken back. Still, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that occur.

This has to be the most absurd argument I've ever read.... people are knocking a guy for bringing passion and excitement to the game? My goodness, let's get a grip here folks. I would want that guy on my team 10 out of 10 times. This isn't a guy who is starting benches clearing brawls or a guy who his teammates hate. You want to grow the game of baseball? You need more of this.

"He knows how he's supposed to be pitched, how he's going to be pitched. He's a very, very smart individual and he's got a very high baseball IQ." Even with his competitive nature, both Johns and McLerran referred to Franco's personality as "infectious" and mentioned his smile. https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...wander-franco-mlb-debut/5296006001/?gnt-cfr=1

I'd certainly prefer a team full of JRams, Klubers, Biebers, Omars, Thomes, Thorntons, Kips, Cookies, Sandys...on the field class acts who comport themselves with grace...but I'm not a 20 something.

Growing up in the 50s and 60s, its hard to describe how reviled Ali was when he first came up and beat Liston...and proclaimed himself The Greatest.

And danced, and mugged, and refused to show any deference to anybody in boxing. Now he is universally beloved.

Times change. They always have, and they always will.

The game’s been going downhill ever since than sonofabitch Babe Ruth pointed his bat at the bleachers to call his shot back in the 1930s.

Oh wait. No, no it hasn’t.

Lost in all the commotion of what an abomination it is for modern athletes to emote while competing...

Non-tender deadline was moved up from 12/2 to 11/30.

DEFCON 1

So trash talking now equates with competitiveness?

Yes. Completely harmless, non violent, and rooted in the spirit of competition.

If so, I’m happy to be a “hypocrite” by your myopic definition.

Good to know.

Given your myopic definition of sportsmanship and the hypocritical, moving target of “unwritten rules” that people can never seem to explain but are always the first to complain about with respect to that concept.

As is almost ALWAYS the case when people have a subjective, often misguided take on what sportsmanship is.

How important do you think this will be?

Yep, a lockout until at least early February seems inevitable. Hopefully, the Browns can go on a run and the Cavs can remain competitive while baseball goes completely dark over the next couple months.

How depressing but better the off-season than the alternative.
