JBB's wallet better be lighter after this post game presser.

Also, his clock management at the end of the game was fucking comical. Monty Williams straight up showed him how it's done.

This is the best team JB ever coached. Monty went to the finals last year.

It's like being mad Darius isn't as good as CP3

I couldn't coach that last stretch without putting forks in that young refs eyes

People think I'm being negative just cause.

I think this team has enough talent to make the top 8.

I think the coach is gonna prevent that.

There are at least 3 games this year we win with better coaching. This was one. Washington was another.

Everyone is excited because the team is playing competitive, close games but losing.

They should be winning more of these games if put in better position.

Talent level to be top 8. Is that with Sexton and Mobley, or without?

And does top 8 mean that you feel like they are underachieving when they can't beat Brooklyn, GS, and PHX without Mobley and Sexton?

Once Mobley is back(and obviously we know Sexton is gone for the year), I do think they have the talent to be top 8. And my expectation level will be that we should be on pace for 39-45 wins, which is an uptick from the 33-49 record I predicted in the Prediction thread. But after seeing the team play so far, once Mobley comes back, if we have relatively good health the rest of the season with our critical guys, than I would be disappointed with a .400 winning percentage.

As far as JBB, I see him as average at best and see the same limitations and downsides everyone else does, but I also don't think you can praise how much the team has competed, even throughout so many injuries, and think that some of that isn't coming from coaching and leadership.

Team has been infused with talent.

He can't manage late game situations. He can't figure out how to best use his spot up shooters. And he can't figure out how to expand the rotation to buy some minutes. Every game is the same lately. Early lead, lose it late in the 3rd, offense stalls out, Garland gets tired.

He wanted to start Okoro. He's got him now. He's making him look like a g-leaguer.

Better coach and this team could win 45-50 games.

It's gonna be a lottery team unless he gets the Lloyd pierce treatment.

Mark this post. 200 bucks to RCF if I'm wrong.

We miss TONS of wide open three pointers. Yes, there are different ways to get the guys 3P looks in different rhythms but I see constant missed open threes. The looks are there and happening. A better coach could run better offense but the players ultimately have to make open shots.

I don't see JBB as the long term coach here either. But I'm not a big coaching guy. It's easy to micro focus on specific channels of the game and not the big picture. I don't think there is a coach in the NBA today's who has this Cavs team, following the exact same roster for and injury flow, with more than 2 wins on this season.

Don't forget, there were some early very close wins. We don't just get to assume that a different coach or better coach automatically keeps those as wins.

Pick any other coach in the NBA you like and I think this teams record is somewhere between 9-10 and 11-8

I reckon people are harsh on him and I was a massive hater coming into the season, he needs to have better plays on offense for us to take the next step though but I have been impressed with the teams improvement even with players out. The rotation stuff is an overdone complaint no matter who is coach :)

Friendly reminder a good portion of this board thought Ty Lue was the worst coach in the league, including some of these posters who now bitch and moan about every little detail with JBB.

Lue has since gone on to find success in LA even when dealt adversity and is now very respected amongst his peers after having success outside of LeBron’s shadow.

It’s almost like inexperienced coaches are still projects themselves who are still learning and growing.

This guy is never going to do anything good enough for some people. The grass will always be greener on the other side for them.

To me, the coach is the biggest reason the crusty ass husk of this team was able to hang tough and still have this team floating around .500 after all the absences, which are soon to be over as Mobley returns shortly.

I like the direction JBB is taking this group. I like the culture he is creating as the ground floor for the Mobley era. I think he is a guy who can still grow as he coaches in more and more games like the last few weeks where things are tight and you have to dial stuff up to dig out a win. That’s stuff he hasn’t exactly seen a lot of in his coaching experience to this point.

I like the team, I like the coach, I like the GM, and maybe most importantly for me…this team lost me and my interest the last few years but they’ve gained it back and then some with how they’ve played to this point and I like the direction they’re headed, and I know I’m not alone in feeling that way amongst this fan base. JBB is a big reason for that, he deserves some damn respect and props for getting a bunch of young guys who have known nothing but losing in the NBA to buy into his culture.

Once again, I’ll point out that there are fans who hate and blame the coach no matter what. The coach is always an imbecile. No matter who it is, the “fan” always knows better. Check any other team’s game threads. Same story everywhere. These are the same people who think they would know how to run the businesses they work for better than their bosses.

The only complaint is that the Cavs offense needs to be more sophisticated. Last year's Cavs with mostly the same crew were getting blown out by some of these teams. And the moves by Koby have saved the Cavs' asses.

Cavs need some serious LUCK to land the wing player that will allow this defensive team to pull a 2014 Spurs on their foes.

John Blair Bickerstaff has been head coach of 3 teams and has a career record of 119 and 197 for a winning percentage of 37%.

But ok.

See, I don’t think it has to be that sophisticated to be successful.

Cavs were killing teams with high pick and rolls at full strength with Mobley and Allen. Those 2 guys’ ability to catch, pass, and in Mobley’s case dribble or shoot off those actions freed up a good look more times than not by itself.

They do pick and choose set plays to get good looks at 3 or favorable situations to break down defenses. Incorporating a lot of swinging gate actions with their off ball guard to get looks either off the screens or off the play by that guard when the ball is received

They run a lot of sets, at full strength, utilizing their size and making defenders climb through the muck to defend them.

And by far the best actions they’ve been using this season that is a new wrinkle I’ve noticed is they are having their off ball guards set screens for their bigs in the low post to free up the big to then run a pick and roll with the on ball guard. Doing that is taking advantage of size again by getting a guard matched up with Mobley/Allen/Marrk/Love and letting them run the offense from the elbow off a mismatch or letting them get into favorable positions with a guard on a big on the perimeter.

More than one way to skin a cat. Everyone wants the Warriors hypermotion offense where it’s non-stop ball and man movement and it looks nice. Cavs were doing just fine at full strength hammering high pick and rolls and running their set pieces to get good looks at 3 (and missing a lot of those looks early on) or getting favorable looks to attack the basket when things slowed down.

They had teams so collapsed into the paint at times earlier this season you would have thought Kareem and Wilt were in wine and gold.

He just need a young innovative guy to run the offense and inbound plays. JBB is a master motivator. Young Cavs play hard every night.
