Hey RCF - I have a huge favor to ask. What's the best Nintendo to television connection hardware out there?

Long story short, I almost bought a new Nintendo Switch for my kids because we thought our Switch was dead. As it turns out, the charging dock set was trash:

Is there a better hardware setup so that I can plug my Switch into a TV and charge it simultaneously?

Santa appreciates a quick and speedy reply.

Buy a new dock. Connect it to your tv via HDMI. The Nintendo licensed ones are the best.

If there was something wrong with the old one, and it is under warranty, Nintendo will fix it for free. If your warranty is up they still will fix it or replace it at a reduced price if you call their service line.

I know that when 3rd party docks first came out that they had issues with compatibility since Nintendo used their own proprietary USB-C port/charge cable instead of the traditional USB-C cable used by everyone else. Those caused the system to brick itself and die, but I would assume that 4 years later that that issue has been resolved if you can find any 1st Party docks available.

People say go with the nintendo one, but it was literally burning out power supplies for me repeatedly.

I bought this one, and it is smaller, it connects more easily through the USB-C and I have had no problem for 1.5 years with it now, while I have had repeated trouble with the switch one.

I really don't like the way the OEM one connects on the dock. I think the spring is too strong and it ruins the connection

This.

Nintendo fucked up in a lot of hardware shit rushing the switch to market, but knows it’s fan base is loyal, so they replace basically free or repair it.

I’ve sent all of our joy cons in one bundle, and it immediately game back.

The one thing I will say- we charge our switch off dock almost exclusively for the above mentioned reasons with their OEM dock. Nintendo AM stuff is usually really really good though.

When I bought my Switch, I bought another aftermarket "dock" that was basically just a dongle for connecting to the TV/charging. I was weary of the reports of the dock warping and scratching the system. I don't even see the one I bought online anymore, but it's still working just fine.

So you just called service? I ask because both of our joycon sets have gone bad after under 2 years of use and I just bought the kids generic ones. I can call Nintendo and they will repair them?

One thing- if they can’t be fixed you get sent back generic color controllers. But yeah. Even ot of warranty, Nintendo fucked up and they drift. Nintendo provides the shipping too if I remember right.
