HOF 2022 ballot

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well lets see how many get in, a lot of them had issues with the PEDs (some are in the Mitchell Report and rumors) while there is a lot of borderline halls but very few with credentials...

They were the best of their era. My criterion for the Hall of Fame is pretty simple: Were they famous?

Omar's domestic situation unfortunately ended his chance at Cooperstown, but he was the best defensive shortstop I ever saw.

Not to mention sexually harrassing batboys.

But yes, I agree.

As far as HOF selection:
Ty Cobb was a totally miserable human being. Yet, he was a great player, and a highly regarded member of the HOF. My feelings are that membership should be based solely on your performance on the field. Back in the day, many things were hushed up. Mickey Mantle was sure as hell no role model.
That doesn't mean cheaters should be in. I think they need a special wing for cheaters. To me, the greatest HR hitter was Hank Aaron. Not some guy with a pumped up head.

So Gaylord Perry should be kicked out?

So Gaylord Perry should be kicked out?
Great question.
Back in the day when Gaylord was pitching, no umpire was able to find any substance he was using. Some umpires were tougher than others, but nobody found anything. It's my opinion that after a while, there was an attitude that if we can't find anything, go ahead and use it. Obviously, attitudes have changed.
My post also mentioned that maybe there could be a special wing or classification for players with questionable circumstances. Actually, on Gaylord's actual HOF plaque it mentions that he "played head games" with hitters to keep them guessing. So at least it was mentioned.
Gaylord was a tremendous competitor and had a long and successful career. It was more than just a trick pitch.

Baseballs ballot is so convoluted. The guys who played like HOFers on that ballot are all accused of cheating. Several are borderline guys who belong with Kenny Lofton in the Hall of Very Good. Several were/are colossal assholes. And one of them propositioned a lady I know when she was 16. Either they vote for the suspected cheaters or I don't see anyone electable this year.

Barry Bonds and Manny and ARod and Sosa and on and on were more than just PED's also.

I agree. That's why I hope some day the HOF has a wing or some sort of designation for these players. If it's about the greats of the game, it's hard to have a HOF without learning about Rose, Clemens, Bonds, and others.

Don't even need a special wing. These guys were some of the best to ever play and deserve to be honored with everyone else. Should we have a special wing for the guys who were complete scumbags away from the field too? Or maybe just make a special room for Bud Selig who allowed all of this PED stuff to happen when everyone who wasn't living under a rock knew it was happening?

You are entitled to your opinion and completely respect it as I don't think there is a right answer here but for me I have no issue with it because MLB didn't do a thing about it.

The thing about the steroid era, is just about everyone at one point took something, whether on purpose or not. It felt like it was so common, that it almost became the thing to do/a fad in the clubhouse. Not something I want to say, but both sides took the stuff, so its almost like no one or everyone who was at the top in the era gets in...

Also guys like Bonds, ARod etc were fantastic players naturally. It's not like I could just take steroids and become a .300 hitter... These guys were good to begin with a steroids/hgh just made them even better. I would bet most of the guys we have been discussing without the roids would still have been solid MLB players, but how good... thats something we could never know

Also until the older writers are out, it's unlikely we ever see a 200 game winning pitcher elected into the hall of fame... last one to win 300 was what Johnson, Maddux, Glavine... after that crew it's CC at 250... I dont know anyone that got any higher than that...
