I dont recall NRIs like that being taken, but I don't 100% know the ruling either... I haven't seen anything anywhere. In OOTP they allow it, but in real life, I haven't seen anything one way or the other...

For those interested, this is most complete explaination of Rule 5 draft that I have seen
It says,
Effective December 2016, the "AA Phase" (where a club's AA minor league affiliate could select Rule 5 Draft-eligible players off the reserve lists of minor league clubs of a classification below AA for $4,000) has been eliminated.
I said with 40+38+38 players to protect, that it was mute point anyways.

This guy also indicated that minor league FAs are subject to selection thus protection. Narisco Crook was a recent 6 yr minor lg FA signed from Reds, he is suggesting sb protected.
Same as Johnathan Holder who played for Yankees and elected FA ... resigned w Cubs on minor league deal.

So are guys like Leon eligible. Probably. Does he need protection? Depends if you think another team was interested in him. Also, hurts egos if you dont when you want them to compete in spring.

We will lose a guy or 2 or 5 but doubt they will have been more than utility guy for our minor leagues...

I dont see anyone past 38 I would be actually afraid to lose at the end of the day...

We will lose 10+ and 3-4 will hurt. I come up with 23 position players alone I'd hate losing and 19 pitchers

Care to expand? I don't see anyone I would freak out over losing in the minor league portion, considering 38 get protection.

Maybe not freak out, but I'm a draft nut and we will definitely lose a bunch of decent depth arms like Tully, A. Arias, Clemmer or some very young IFA talents we don't really know a lot about like D. Aguilar, S. Rodriguez, W. Peralta (the last 2 from the strong 17 IFA class. Peralta got 300K).

Also a couple of C like possibly M. Rivera or M. Ramirez. G. Collins is a lock to be lost and no big deal, but J. Lopez even made FG list not long ago and he'll be gone too.

OF too, might be the end of Q. Holmes, but they'll probably keep him around for another go. I'd hate losing S. Rodriguez after his ACL season. Call and/or Farhat are probably gone.

My list is those who I'd hate losing. In my original rundown, I didn't count Tully, Gervacio, Morillo and maybe Miednik.

And I already left off depth performers like Krauth as if it's a given to lose an arm like that in minors R5 or M. Vinicio and his 0.89 ERA in Lynchburg

Other teams will fill out their system with our leftovers. We will lose at least 6 and up to 10-12 players.
