Rule 5 draft talk

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That's 24 on the pitching side alone and already cut talents like Eichhorn, Clemmer and S. Arias (injury and the latter two 2016 draftees)

Who did I add who wasn't on GPI's list?

Okay, now I am getting it. The one @MadThinker88 put up isnt the updated one.

FF-eqFcXsAIh3MT

This is the updated one from the Guardians Prospect, which actually has a slightly different list...

@Tondo

So If I am making a list... I think the AAA guys are all likely kept...

pitchers

Broom, Garza, McCarty, Scott, Mota, Tully, Young

position guys

Collins, Leon, Fermin, Benson, Brooks, Call, Gonzalez, Johnson

That is about 15 there...

So then we just signed De Los Santos, then guys like Cantillo, Bracho, Jerson Ramirez, Planez, were on some peoples list to get added to the 40 man, so they are likely kept...

So thats about 20...

Last 18 then...

For catchers, its like Micael Ramirez and Andres Melendez (I am thinking)

Maybe Nova and Gonzalez, for INF? Maybe Johnathan Rodriguez and Holmes in the OF? Skeiling didnt look bad this season... I dont see any other OF that I would even think about honestly...

When it comes to pitching, we have a lot of good arms...

Arias flopped in 21...Clemmer, Krauth, Lingos, Marman, Gallagher, Draper werent impressive in 21, Herrin, Miednik, Pinto, Ponticelli, and Teaney all looked solid in 21, but they were older in the league they were in... McCarthy is out for 22... DeGroat I know nothing about... Turner, Eichhorn and Royalty I havent seen enough of... Other guys I have no clue about honestly... I would have to go with your opinion on that honestly @Tondo

So my 38 would be the 20 in the first post then the best 18 left in this one... I just dont have enough scouting reports and whatnot on those guys to know who could be a sleeper since these guys are essentially depth pieces or sleepers...

You're leaving off many very young IFA guys like Soteldo, Paz, Planchart.
Soteldo got the 3rd highest bonus in 2017 behind Bracho/Valera. He missed a lot of time due to injuries, but is still only 20yo and has finally debuted in ACL. They will absolutely protect him.

Time of control will be a key factor too, that's why I'm pretty sure that a lot of players entering their final year will be left off and that includes guys like G. Collins, Call and T. Brooks and Tully, Arias and Clemmer.

With S. Leon and Lavastida in Columbus and M. Rivera possibly too, Collins is out. Same for Call in OF (though he's decent RH OF depth for now). Brooks might have a shot because there's no 1B to take his spot.

There will be some surprises. Maybe they even let go of D. Johnson? But they would have released him already if that was their plan. Benson is also entering his final year in the system, but pedigree will keep him around, Q. Holmes probably too.

See I don't know a ton about the lower guys who names aren't widely known. Personally I think we will have depth pieces just in case of injuries like Brooks and Call (who in a rebuilding year may have seen MLB time with us). I only had 20 I felt we would protect then the best 18 left after that... without knowing the internal rankings, it's really hard to say which of those 18 left we would keep, but I do feel like it will be heavy pitching at the end of the day....

So quick group consensus, .... it looks like (just reorganizing above comments)

For catchers (6)-- Leon, Melendez, Ramirez, Paz, Planchart ... maybe a Rivera or Collins (for AA/AAA depth)
For infield (4) -- Bracho, Fermin, Nova and maybe M Gonzalez (don't know if he really has space at 2b/ss/3rd) and/or maybe a 1B like Brooks
For outfield (7) -- Gonzalez, Johnson, Benson, Planez, J Rodriquez, Holmes (maybe due to draft status), S Rodriquez (nice year but was 4th year in rookie ball ... 2 in DSL, off year and last year - so older)

So there is 17 to 18 guys when you can probably allocate1/2 of 38 or 19 to positional players .... so list look reasonable ... may want to add Call just for depth (great AA numbers last year .310/.892 but .229/.728 in AAA). Also remember, if they want to make a selection (for like power 1B), there needs to be room on reserve list.

For pitching

(10) Broom, Garza, McCarty, Scott, Mota, Tully, Young, Santos, Turner (just in AFL), Soteldo
(5) "Herrin, Miednik, Pinto, Ponticelli, and Teaney all looked solid in 21" --
15 so far Out of 18 to 19 spots, that's not a bad list.
So maybe two or three of
Clemmer, Krauth, Lingos, Marman, Gallagher, Draper, Eichorn, Royalty, McCarthy(injured)

At this point, relievers are more a dime a dozen with all our starters (few will be converted to our top relievers before too long). They may like Royalty (8th round in draft) so may get edge. And, rest is numbers game where a few are taken and a few are left to fill the middle innings where needed.

Does anyone know if there has been a AAA selection that has actually materialized in being a decent (or even fill in) utility/pen guy?

Your P list is missing locks like De Los Santos, Cantillo, R. Burgos

OF Skeiling Rodriguez is 20yo coming off a strong ACL season, entering full season ball at age 21, he's younger than any college bat (like Kokx). Same goes for Wilfri Peralta, who already got some A Ball action and was another fairly big 2017 IFA signing (300K)

Well about an hour to go before the last "significant" baseball event happens until the lockout ends.

Wonder who we lose and who we gain. I suspect we will take an 1B, OF or pitcher. 2 spots open and no reason not to fill them.

Catcher if at AAA level but doubt that much better than Rivera or Collins ... we are deep at lower level where most would be.

Power hitters

2 years injured ... Covid year so 4th year first with 1.03 Whip in 29 inn at high A last year ...

End of round 1, no one taken so far ... 2 from Rangers, Royals and Rays it looks like.. Kekai Rios C from Brewers went to Dodgers as only catcher ...hit .270 in High A and .105 in AA in 19 AB ... will stick with our catchers naylor and lavastida.
