Rajon HOT WATER Rondo

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Rubio had a 3.1 defensive raptor as a guard. That is crazy. The loss of Rubio should hurt our defense on paper. He was so underrated.
Defense was 6.0/100 better with him on the court. Only Mobley was more impactful. And that's with Rubio playing a lot of minutes with Love and Cedi, the two worst defenders in the rotation.

I like the way the Cavs used Rubio on defense; he was frequently not guarding the other team's point guard, instead guarding the guy in the corner. From there he could survey the offense and call out rotations.

Need to add about five rondo’s to this team.

This guy has been very bad. Can't shoot, can't create any separation, forces passes, thinks he's a leader even though he joined the team 2 seconds ago.

3 turnovers in 20 minutes from a dude who was acquired pretty much to take care of the ball while Garland rests.

Bleh.

So him, Goodwin, or Pangos?

Beggars can't be choosers.

Yeah, so very bad.

10.3 PPG, 4.7 APG, 4 RPG, 1 SPG, 2:1 Assist to TO ratio, 41.7/42.9/83.3 shooting splits, net rating of +3 on the floor.

So bad. Let's go back to Pangos.

And the guy he is being asked to help replace?

13.1 PPG, 6.6 APG, 4.1 RPG, 1.4 SPG, 2.5:1 Assist to Turnover ratio, 36.3/33.9/85.4 shooting splits.

He is doing exactly what we need him to do to this point, help replace that production.

HIs passes haven't been crisp. A pg needs a little time to get used to the guys, but yeah he is 60% of Rubio at best.

The look on Mobley's face taking everything Rondo is saying in even though he had to bend down a little because Rondo is a full foot shorter, lol.

He isn't 60% Rubio.

I don't understand how people aren't happier about this add with what he is showing to this point. As you just mentioned, PGs need time to get acclimated to new players. While that is happening he is clearly fitting in and feels comfortable within the offense finding spots to score and especially comfortable within the defense with the towers and size behind him.

Cavs have a 94.8 DRtg with Rondo on the floor to this point, which is ridiculously good considering the Cavs just played 2 top 15 offenses according to NBA.com's ORtg and he is new to the team. Yet in here and around the board we had people telling us he is "cooked" defensively.

On top of that, his per 36 and per 100 numbers with the Cavs are pretty much Rubio's exact numbers to this point. He is turning the ball over at a higher rate, but again, PGs who are asked to run the offense need some time to get used to new players and their spots/tendencies and that can easily be pointed to as a reason for that higher tally.

Obviously I doubt the 3 point % on that volume remains 40% plus, but we just watched him have a 20+ game stretch last season where he shot 43% from 3.

I am thrilled with what we are seeing through 3 games. It's clear the dude fits much better with the Cavs than the Lakers and he hadn't played an NBA minute since 12/23 until the Blazers game so I am sure he is getting his legs and wind back under him, and things should only get smoother running the offense as he plays more and more.

We got this guy for free. Love the fit and think it'll only get better the more he plays with guys.

Such a bad hot take.

Do you expect him to be Rubio with no training camp? He is giving us 80% of what Rubio gave us, 100% of the vet leadership, this is a best case scenario. Just not sure what you expect for a vet min guy.

Fun fact. Ronda is 14th on the all time leading assists in the HISTORY of the NBA.

Sure he turns 36 next month, but 2 rings, top 15 in assists all time, can defend, still has some juice left. He is also shooting 43% from 3 since he got here. No way that is sustainable at this point, but really been solid, better than I expected and I thought it was a great pick up for essentially a 2 way player.

What percent of Rubio do you give it. I thought 75% when we got him, but he has been 80% maybe 85% of Rubio so far.

Also funny you mention the 3-point not sustainable, but Rubio cant shoot form 3 that well either. Rubio came back down to Earth at 34% and thats where I expect Ronda to be...until the playoffs. Rondo hates it, but Playoff Rondo is very real.

He doesn't break the defense at all. That is the problem. Rubio did. He'd get past the first line of defense and guys would converge on him at the basket. Most of the work is being done by the guys off ball. I think he looks good shooting it, but he seems way more comfy on the catch and shoot.

It's too bad his finishing has gotten so poor.

I like Rondo, and I am really happy they got him. I am totally willing to give him some time, but he looks rusty to me.

Rubio had 27 when he went down. He was just a different leader and he was a chaos agent creating opportunities for guys.
