2022 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Anyone know if Espino is about to miss a start due to his knee? MILB's website definitely leaves a lot to be desired and if you go day by day it has him off this week but if all was well he should be pitching Thursday May 5th. Any help would be appreciated as I live in Richmond, VA and it's the one time they visit.

Check the weekly games thread..
I try to keep up with the various roster movement when possible

I think they will be extra cautious with Espino. Though I have no idea, I don't think he is pitching before the weekend.

Thanks for y'alls input. It's a six game stretch and I've been mapping their rotation for the past two weeks in prep, guess we shall see. Skipped tonight to work late because figured I'd see Logan Sunday (at least I got the game on TV). Hope to maybe add some first hand reports to the forum the next few days. I have a visit to NE Ohio late July so maybe catch someone I miss this week on that trip.

They put him on the 7 day IL today, so he’s missing at least 1 start.

They're saying this week for Espino: He will not be seen on the mound.. sounds pretty definitive..

You conveniently left out Rocchio's three 350+ BABIP stops. Higher BABIPs at lower levels are normal due to worse defense, it's not rocket science. I'm not saying Tena's is unsustainable, just that if you adjust for BABIP and look at other, more telling stats like SwStr% and BB/K, Rocchio is the far superior prospect.

I can 100% guarantee you that Rocchio would get called up before Tena
And you're conveniently leaving out important information and cherry picking BABIP numbers to argue against what nobody is saying. I don't think there is a single person here that believes Tena would be called up before Rocchio or that Tena is the better prospect, but suggesting Tena's success is based solely off of BABIP is horseshit.

Rocchio is not a "far superior prospect". Go back to last year prior to when they promoted Rocchio and compare their respective performances. Again, my point here isn't to suggest that Tena is a better prospect than Rocchio or that they should have promoted Tena instead, but your assessment of Tena is wrong.

Both are damn fine SS prospects. Rocchio's peripherals suggest he might be the better bet, but that's a best guess at this point.

No reason not to be extremely cautious right?

Not sure what windmills you are fighting here, but that was a reply to Petes, who argued it'd be 50/50 who should get called up first and he's the only one who actually cherry picked BABIP stats, so take it up with him....I also explicitly noted that Tena's BABIP isn't crazy high, just highlighted the gap, that Rocchio's is way too low.

There's a reason most prospect outlets have significant FV between the two. I like both too. I've been the first who said Tena has mini Jose Ramirez skillet if he can refine his approach. He was able to do that in AFL with robo umps, but it's gone back to his free swinging ways this year.

Tena is closer to an Amed Rosario profile if he can't be more selective. That's actually a good comp for Jose himself if he would swing as much as Tena and Amed do.

Whereas Rocchio is a carbon copy of Gimenez

Sorry for the misunderstanding and I agree that Rocchio's low BABIP will most certainly migrate back to his norms. Conversely, I do not believe Tena's success is BABIP driven either. I do see Rocchio's approach as a bit more advanced which is probably what got him promoted instead of Tena even though Tena's numbers were as good or better. I do think that Tena can do more damage when he barrels the ball, but he's also 20lbs heavier and 2" taller. They are both gifted and I think Tena is being a bit undersold in many assessments.

... my conclusion was that they would probably leave things as is ... especially if Jones was nearing being ready to be activated ... I was just putting out arguments for different scenarios on who to promote including others.

And, I only fought back only because your said Rocchio was better than Tena on any meaningful statistic --- thus I looked at BA for this year (and it holds historically .279 vs .298 for Tena). And, this lead to BA being impacted by BABIP which Tena is historically better .321 vs .369 - not just luck in almost 1,000 at bats each. So, I guess neither BA nor BABIP are then meaningful.

Amazing how one line caused all this ... let's just bury it.

Pete Said
"The question is who do you promote from AA as Tena is playing better than Rocchio but Rocchio has more AA experience? Or, do you promote M Gonzalez and see who has more potential as the AAAA utility guy in Fermin/Marcos when they are side-by-side (facing same pitchers).

Yet, at the end of the day, with Jones getting ready (maybe a week or two but who knows) for real games, they may just struggle through"

Rocchio will be up before Tena, but at the moment, we should leave then at their current levels. They haven't earned a promotion yet and AA is a true test for everyone, so best to leave them at the level they are at if you can help it.

I actually feel the first position promotion will be Will Brennan anyways...

Speaking of Will Brennan does it make any sense to protect him? Seems that we got way too many lefty OFs ahead of him on the food chain. Kwan, Palacios, Naylor, Jones, Valera with Halpin rising.

I dont doubt he will be taken if not protected, he is an OF with a solid contact bat, who is willing to take walks. It wouldnt be hard at all to use him as a 4th OF...

250 IP for the 2021 draft class to this point.

250 IP, 3.42 ERA, 1.268 WHIP, 11.9 K/9, 3.7 BB/9.

Not half bad.

And to think about it ... they all for most part were pushed up a level really early (really no MV anymore for college pitchers). Nikhazy and Mace are not pitching all that well till yesterday -- assume were told to work on things the Guardian way. (Nik 4.2 ERA and 2.13 WHIP -- Mace before yesterday 6.23 ERA and 1.46 WHIP). Plus, Webb is the forgotten one being out with injury.

Any news on Jones and being ready for AAA? Know 2 weeks ago ... he was still multiple weeks away per Mandy or someone ... is he in live games in Arz yet?
