Some guys can just play. Maybe Sochan is one of those. A lot of guys measure up, look good in a workout, but can’t play.
Is Sochan the Scottie Barnes in this draft? Can’t shoot a damn lick, but just gets the job done.

If he was he probably wouldn't last to 14.

The way I look at it, the Cavs were not even supposed to have this pick. So if they get a chance to hit a home run to make up for some of their fly balls in the last couple of years, I'm with it. Dieng is a scary proposition because it's all an upside gamble. Other prospects show you what you can do right now. Even Agbaji is what we hope we can see out of Okoro in a season or two. And for that matter, Okoro does have at least a couple years for the Cavs to work on.

Except for finding a backup guard that can give you some offense before Rubio comes back I think the Cavs can just run it back and see what happens.
Mobley was a "fly ball?"

Scottie Barnes is a ball handler/playmaker. Sochan doesn't have good ball handling skills and I don't see the playmaking upside.

Sochan will be lob threat/dunker who can guard multiple positions on defense. I think what positions those are up in the air. I don't think he is 1-5, maybe 2-4 or 3-5.

Not sure who you are watching - Sochan is a really good ballhandler for a forward:

I see real loose ball handling in open space and using his body to get to limited spots. I don't think that's good for a forward in NBA standards. That looks like TT after LeBron left.

You must not have watched Sochan then.

He’s a solid creator and facilitator. That and his ability to switch defensively are the two reasons he’s discussed in the top 10.

I dont want us trading the pick to trade out of the draft. I think there are some nice scenarios to trade up and grab a good piece (Dyson, Mathurin) or trade down and get one of the guys (J Williams, Terry) and some assets. Trading out of the draft entirely is almost as bad as wasting the pick on a scoring 2 guard unless Brandon Ingram or Cade Cunningham is walking through that door.

I'll admit I've only watched highlights of him but I think the highlights aren't that impressive for what people are hyping. He makes some good passes but is it really something he can lean on, on the offensive side of the ball. I get the defensive upside but I think people are taking glimpses and over projecting him on offense.

I was a fan of Scottie Barnes last year and what I saw from him was a completely different level than Sochan.

In case anyone cares for my thoughts, I still have my priorities as:

1. Trade up (DYSON PLEASE!)
2. Trade for current NBA wing
3. Trade down and pick up 2023 first
4. Stay at 14
If we can trade up for Dyson or Mathurin, I'd be fine with that. But otherwise, I want to stay at 14 unless we can trade down just a few spots and still get one of J.Williams, Branham, or Agbaji. This year there are several players in that 14-18 range who would be lottery picks most years, and we should take advantage and not trade it away for an unknown. The problem with trading for a current NBA wing is the salary we would need to take on. We are going to need to pay Garland, Mobley, and probably either Sexton or LeVert, so I don't want to spend more cap space on another vet right now. Draft picks are cheap labor while on their first contract, so we need to draft one who will contribute.

I want a shooter. So, I prefer J.Williams or Branham to Davis, Eason, Sochan, Dieng, M.Williams, and Duren, even though those guys are mocked higher. We need to get this pick right.

If dieng is gone, I'm cool trading down and picking up a first for next year.

If he ends up on team that loves to push it in transition then that will translate but the Cavs don't like to push it. I'm not sure there are many NBA teams that like to push in transition like college teams like to. More half court offense with longer defenders may really reduce how his ball handling and playmaking looks in the NBA.

Im not saying I think Sochan will be a bust or doesn't have a role in the NBA but I think he isn't a fit for the Cavs. I think if he gets to the right team he could thrive but I really don't think that team is the Cavs.

DG, Dieng, Lauri, Mobley, and JA
