We have to make sure this team is ready to win a world title in 2024 and the subsequent years. This is more of what I mean.
Our two reasonable options to replace Amed and equal him next year are Freeman and ?Arias?
Arias? Really?
Is there anybody that is paying attention that really thinks Arias is a legitimate option next year? He may nominally be a top 100 now, but does anybody really think he will be at seasons end? A 57 wRC+ that has struck out a third of the time this year?
Amed is what we hope Freeman will become someday.
And our young RFs are superior to Laureano, who has averaged 4 fWAR per 600 PAs in his career.
And Murphy isn't an upgrade over Bo Naylor, even though he has averaged 4.8 fWAR per 600 PAs...and won a GG.
Because Straw is already here and isn't Mickey Mantle, several on here beat the drums to replace him in the lineup with somebody....anybody....O Gonzalez, Benson, Brennan.
Because Kwan is already here and isn't a prototypical big K- big power- slow footed LF, several are already looking for somebody...anybody...out of the usual suspects to replace him in the lineup.
Because Jones is already here, and although he is hitting the snot out of the ball and playing a good all around game, some already have Valera penciled in to replace him in RF.
For some of us, the guy in Akron or Columbus will always be better than the guy in Cleveland...or just about any player at the MLB level.
It doesn't work that way.
The odds of Freeman being as productive as Amed are slim.
The odds of any of our RF prospects being as productive as Laureano are slim.
The odds of Bo Naylor being as good Murphy is slimmer.
The odds of any of our OFs, including Kwan and Brennan, being as valuable as Straw are slim.
The odds that all of Espino, Williams, and Allen will not have major arm problems and will be long term productive SPs for us are nearly non existent.
The odds that the FO can protect all of our key upper level prospects for the R5 while having a 40 man that is even semi competitive next season...without a major trade...are non existent.
Amed Rosario doesn't fit into those plans. The absolute treasure trove of talented players behind him do.
If we spent our limited financial resources on an average SS just to ensure that our young, talented prospects never get a chance to succeed, that would be the dumbest thing this organization has done. It clearly isn't going to happen.
