Not cool. Gets 16 PA, 375 OBP, see ya, Wtf?

The best LHP in the game couldn't get him out and we throw away a perfect platoon bat just like that? I hope this won't bite them and he'll join the ex-players that haunt us.

I doubt he gets through waivers...

Even if he does, he's a minors FA after this season.

I don't fully trust their evaluations in hitters, they've fucked up a bunch on that side while keeping complete hacks and given them hundreds of PA.

I just hope Call doesn't land in CWS or MIN

There will be other ones as Morris was put on rehab on 7/12 ... so another week and we got to cut one more of
Clement, Castro, McCarty (so it was just a matter of time)

And, I assume they were hoping Call would sneak through as the last of a bunch of deferrals after trade deadline. But as BCH just said, he was going to be deferred anyways and we wouldn't get much of anything back. We are worried about lefty/right splits in OF but with Oscar doing clean-up over Miller tonight, I think it is safe to assume Tito is high on Oscar giving us 2 RH bats with Straw next year in OF.

Add in Jose, Gimenez, Freeman, Miller, Naylor infield (or Rocchio/Arias for either Miller/Freeman) -- you have 2 righties, 2 lefties and 1 switch -- where is the issue of needing Call?????

Lastly, I do not think the Guardians are sweating bullets on this loss. They are starting to cut the dead weight (sorry to refer to it in such terms). Yet, I know they wanted McCarty and Shaw to go again tonight and after last night McCarty extended himself too much. Yet, they had Pilk ready to go (last pitched 7/31). Thus, why not just bring up Pilk over Gaddis? If they thought Call had a shot, they would have done the easier move of Pilk. They finally thought a pitcher of Allen, Curry, Gaddis or Battenfield was ready. I am kind of surprised it was Gaddis but with FB/Change being top level, he will fit in well as a reliever to help out once Civale is back (esp come Sept) - a 2 for 1 type roster move. This may have been the tipping point especially as Miko struggle last outing (thus don't be surprised if Castro goes next if they believe Gaddis can stay on to relieve).

Call was getting DFA’d this winter anyways.

Weird player to hang a “I don’t trust their talent evaluation for hitters” on, considering how much better he got in Cleveland’s system.
I'm just baffled why they added Call to the 40 man roster and then didn't give him real opportunity. He looked impressive in the last game he played in the Tampa series, so it's strange they would then part ways with him afterwards. Is Anthony Castro really deserving of the spot on the 40 man over him? He was dreadful up in Cleveland and is walking the ballpark down in Columbus.

He was a RH bat filler until Oscar was healthy

Yeah, I get that and had no problem with him being demoted to Columbus. But, I would have rather they still kept him in the organization and parted ways with someone like Anthony Castro. Maybe Call doesn't get claimed, but I could see a bottom feeder team taking a flyer on him if they have the roster flexibility.

They've made some mistakes on the margins that has cost them is all I'm saying and that's factual, as there's an Ex-CLE lineup out there in the Majors that's not much worse than their current one. I don't see the same with pitchers they let go. For some reason they're much more pedigree/hype over performance when it comes to hitters.

Even more befuddling how you keep Clement with the MIF logjam over a development success story as Call, who's clearly a ML platoon guy. You don't throw away Luplow 2.0 just like that.

Anthony Castro isn’t long for this 40 man roster either with Morris returning shortly.

Making a mountain out of a molehill for a guy who would be their 4th OF option against LHP.

Alex Call is not worth any outrage or head scratching.
He was/is a good story though. Also would've dumped Clement 1st but to each their own.

Glad we "rewarded" him for his hard work/perseverance with a cup of coffee, and I'm not being a smart ass. Probably get's claimed and more of a "real" opportunity now. Could also end up on 3-4 different teams before the 2023 season. Good luck Alex.

Who are the other 3? Straw? OGonz? He outperformed Gonzalez since 2021 in the minors, that's a robust 1.5y sample size.

I do feel a little better about this, as your assessments have proven right way more often than not, but still feel this will be a mistake...

Y. Diaz
J. Wendle
A. Santander
J. Aguilar
Urshela
Grossman
H. Ramirez
Plawecki
Arroyo

This lineup could hang with ours and I probably forgot a couple.... Joyce, Gamel?

Ernie Clement, also a guy who isn’t long for the 40 man.

All these “could have kept him over these guys” examples are guys who are gone anyways to protect Rule 5 guys in a month and a half, Call included. Just such a weird thing to complain about with Gonzalez back.

And Steven Kwan is no longer a platoon player moving forward. There’s your 3rd.

I get the RH OF bat, but at 27 going on 28 next month, there are highly touted, younger guys in Kwan, Oscar Gon, Jones and Benson currently with Brennen, Valera/Noel in the pipeline to get their chance.

He may be picked up and be a solid 4th OF, but for once in the past 5-7 years we have better OF options
