I doubt he gets through waivers...
There will be other ones as Morris was put on rehab on 7/12 ... so another week and we got to cut one more of
Clement, Castro, McCarty (so it was just a matter of time)
And, I assume they were hoping Call would sneak through as the last of a bunch of deferrals after trade deadline. But as BCH just said, he was going to be deferred anyways and we wouldn't get much of anything back. We are worried about lefty/right splits in OF but with Oscar doing clean-up over Miller tonight, I think it is safe to assume Tito is high on Oscar giving us 2 RH bats with Straw next year in OF.
Add in Jose, Gimenez, Freeman, Miller, Naylor infield (or Rocchio/Arias for either Miller/Freeman) -- you have 2 righties, 2 lefties and 1 switch -- where is the issue of needing Call?????
Lastly, I do not think the Guardians are sweating bullets on this loss. They are starting to cut the dead weight (sorry to refer to it in such terms). Yet, I know they wanted McCarty and Shaw to go again tonight and after last night McCarty extended himself too much. Yet, they had Pilk ready to go (last pitched 7/31). Thus, why not just bring up Pilk over Gaddis? If they thought Call had a shot, they would have done the easier move of Pilk. They finally thought a pitcher of Allen, Curry, Gaddis or Battenfield was ready. I am kind of surprised it was Gaddis but with FB/Change being top level, he will fit in well as a reliever to help out once Civale is back (esp come Sept) - a 2 for 1 type roster move. This may have been the tipping point especially as Miko struggle last outing (thus don't be surprised if Castro goes next if they believe Gaddis can stay on to relieve).
