2022 Season Series #34 | Astros @ Guardians | August 4-7, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What a great outing by TMac and a great series split against one of the better teams in the league. Watching TMac pitch so well must have been entertaining, but 1 run isn't very exciting.
I guess I'm in the minority, but 1-0 games are just as exciting as an 11-10 game. But in this case, we're getting the best pitchers and not the 5th or 6th guy's out of the pen.

Managers pressing buttons at the wheel does it for me. Importance of hit and run, substitutions, pitcher and catcher locked in, the anxiousness of awaiting the closer, the cheers of a strikeout, I don't know, 1-0 games offers some great entertainment in the late stages.

Not a bad debate

I don't need to see double digit runs, but some offense is certainly entertaining. To each their own I guess. It's just a guess, but I'd say most baseball fans don't go to the park to see 1-0 games. Sure, they love the shit out of watching their pitchers shut the opposing team down, but offense is the biggest fan draw. Especially when the runs are produced by power. Chicks dig the long ball dude!

1-0 games on the home side aren't a treat still ?

Watching any of our pitchers shut out the opposing team is always a treat. Watching them score 1 run over 8 innings is not a treat. Just my opinion, but I'd venture to say it's shared by the majority.

I’d simply like this post but that doesn’t convey my feelings on the matter. I completely agree and don’t want to be required to have twenty subscriptions to steaming err streaming services.
This same crap pisses me off about buying NHL center ice. I can’t get BLUE JAX games because they’re carried locally until they’re not because PEE-COCK.
Good luck putting that cash cow genie back in the bottle. The future is Apple+, Amazon Prime, ESPN+, Peacock, etc, divvying up MLB broadcast rights, paying exorbitant $$$ to MLB owners.

There is a general theme on this forum that this team can't compete against winning teams, and therefore winning the division and/or a WC doesn't mean much....since we would have no chance in the playoffs.

At the moment we are 28-27 vs teams with winning records.

And we have just seen that pitching can be the great equalizer against top teams.

Guess whose pen has the best ERA and FIP in the AL over the last 30 days?

The Guardians.

In post season baseball a team needs three hot SPs, a closer, and a bridge to the closer.

Over the last 30 days...

TMac....2.49 ERA
Biebs.....3.31
Q............3.39

I didn't think he was 100% a product of spider tack, but I 100% wrote him off as if spider tack was the reason he was effective. That was a terrible call.

I also don't think we've heard that he wasn't using the stuff earlier on. At least that's the first time I'm reading it. It makes sense--and it's reassuring to learn.

As a weird aside--is there a difference between minor league and major league pitch speed trackers? I swear when he was in the minors I was reading that Karinchak was a 99-100mph guy, and in the majors he's been more like a 95-96 guy.

I'm just curious if there's different technology doing the measurement, or possibly just one of those things where Karinchak threw one pitch at 100mph, it gets reported as Karinchak throws 100, and sticks in my head, even though it's not realistic.
@BimboColesHair

So what's Karinchak using now? I went back and watched the 8th inning from 8/6. Dude was going to some substance he had in his hair. Every time. Right hand into the hair above his right shoulder. Then touch the dirt, then rub that combination on his pants. Then toss the ball to make sure the grip is how he likes it. Someone needs to tell him to stop wiping it on his pants afterwards. That brown spot under his right ass cheek isn't a good look.

I can be optimistic and hope it's just a combination of sweat and dirt, but I don't feel like that's the case. I'd guess pine tar or something similar.

(And yes I know that a lot of pitchers are back to using a foreign substance... just not spider tack)

Wasn't dude using pine tar on his glove last season?

Brazenly?

The very best games.. low scoring.. when every subtle flaw is exposed and has a direct bearing on the outcome of the the games scored 1-0... 2-1... 2-0... etc.. It's tough to beat a fast, low scoring game!!..

Who’s the bridge? Stephan?

I want a huge company where streaming isn’t their main revenue source (Apple, Amazon, etc) buy the broadcast rights so they can offer it as a loss leader that drives incremental dollars to their non-content business. So that DirectTV Sunday Ticket bullshit doesn’t happen again.

The cursed Astros could not score.

Worth the price of admission.
