Second half 22 GM Thread!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I really don't doubt that right now, Gimenez will get an extension offer of some type... Amed is going to be a flip of the coin whether or not he is in Cleveland in 23... To be sincere, if we don't get a good offer for him, they have to keep him...
keep him until the trading deadline.. as the earliest he is dealt..

otherwise during the off season & before the GM/Owners/Winter meetings .. it's two or three years plus the last year of his control/arb III.. Something like $ 28 MM over three years plus a club/player vesting option for the fourth year at $ 14MM,, If he rejects it.. then a trade will ensue.. The numbers could be higher.. but, probably not lower..

I actually wouldn't be against keeping Rosario the entire 23 season. I know that hurts getting some guys reps, but Arias had a bad 22 luck wise and Rocchio will be at AAA for a fair amount of the season.

It's just the fact, the way he has stepped up, we cannot just let him go for nothing. If we don't get a good deal then I don't mind keeping him for one more season, sadly we cannot keep him after that.

With Gimenez, I wouldn't mind adding some years onto his control... He is under team control until 27, so making it 28 or 29 would be nice. Though I am not sure if his agent will take an extension since he would get to free agency really young still...

Gimenez would be more than a 3 year type deal.. His deal would be a baseball lifetime type deal.... imho.. Those numbers would approach/not exceed Jose's..

At this point, if there's a team in need of a SS how could they not get a fair offer for him? Dude is a ball player. If they do extend him and decide to deal a prospect or 2 instead you won't hear me complain. I still think they want their MIF to consist of Gimenez and one of Rocchio/Arias. Personally, I'd be seriously considering grooming Arias for the utility position. He could do just about everything but C if given the opportunity to do so IMO.

If Rosario continues and finishes this season like he has been playing, - I would be in favor of giving him an extension. There's no guarantee ANY of the MIF prospects can play any better.

If they do extend him, then there is a strong possibility that the roster we have today will be the same for the next 5 years. (With the exception of putting Valera in the OF.) I think Bo Naylor will be worked in at catcher. But I don't see Tito going with a rookie catcher full time.

There's no guarantee than any of the MIF can't play better than him either, and at a fraction of the cost. We're probably going to find out.

There is no way in hell that the roster of today is the same we'll have in 2-3 yrs. Not with all the quality prospects at the upper levels and performing fantastically.

If Bo Naylor produces upon his promotion you bet your ass they'll be going with a rookie C full time. The bar is extremely low so I think his chances of sticking are quite high.

We were told that this will be a season to see what some of these kids can do and they've held fast to that. They will continue to do that until they are satisfied that the best players are on the roster. We are not there yet. Not even close.

There's two things there will be a guarantee of.
1. By trading Rosario, we will be trading from an area of strength and hopefully filling in an area of weakness. It will make the team more balanced on paper.
2. Rosario's trade value is higher than we would've expected before the season started.

Whether or not trading him makes a better team in 2023, or 2024, or 2025, or after has yet to be decided.

I think the plan with Rosario is, not everyone agrees of course, its highly likely Rosario is traded, but if he isn't, none of us will be against the decision to keep him.

I'd be very surprised if he doesn't have a decent market especially if a team thinks they can extend him/resign him in free agency...

I think if Arias looks more and more like a bust and Freeman and Rocchio show warning signs, at that point we do have to think that maybe it's worth not trading him. I kind of doubt things will look so bleak on the MIF front though so I will likely be against a decision to keep him.

I hope he has a good market. If someone bites it's going to be for him to play SS and most of the better teams do have pretty good SS's. So this is where it might end up making sense not to accept offers.

Rosario is going to be a young FA so if he has a strong 23, he is going to get a solid contract. I would think he would get a good enough market to help now (aka solid lefty reliever with control) or some future prospect(s) with solid upside and not near Rule 5 eligibility.

I know there are some fans that want to see Bo Naylor ascend to the MLB level right now, but I have to wonder if CLE FO is angling for a shot at the extra draft picks/ awards for producing a ROY award winner with this new CBA.

If Naylor joined the MLB team now, he might find himself losing rookie status befoe next year even starts...

Just some food for thought....

the free agent shortstop market for the 2022/2023 off season isn't quite as robust as it was in the 2021/2022 off season.. The 2023 group includes Carlos Correa (again, as he opts out), Xander Bogaerts is also likely to follow Correa into Opt Out category. Add the Braves and Dodgers' shortstops (Turner and Swanson).. and there are several choices. Amed and the Guardians FO may look at this crowded grouping and come to a conclusion they are meant for each other.. at least for a shorter contract.. With Rosario's full game, he might be the best value as a FA.. or.. he might see his market choices being limited so staying put is his best decision. He's well liked.. a team leader and is paid well.. and will be going forward.. regardless of where he's playing.. Sounds too good to be true.. but in this case.. it isn't...

I don't think Arias is looking more and more like a bust. In fact, his recent play suggests that the injury caused him a set back. I do however acknowledge that while his ceiling is higher than any other SS prospect, he also carries more risk.

Rocchio got off to a slow start for whatever reasons and has rounded back into form. Fantastic prospect. If there was ever a Lindor comparison(as a prospect) it has to be Rocchio.

Regardless, we can't ignore what Amed brings to this team. I think Gson actually makes a good point. It may be in both parties' best interest to sign Amed to a small extension given the looming SS market and list of FA's.

Sure I agree with pretty much everything you say there. Was really just thinking there's 2 more months and we can judge our confidence in our own MIF situation and that will be a big input into how likely we will be to trade Amed. There is quite the crowded SS market out there so sadly he isn't going to bring back a monster return.

Yeah I think we're pretty much on the same page.

One thing that we might consider is that the FA SS market might not be as "robust" as we think. Should Correa and/or Bogaerts choose not to opt out of their contracts then that would change things dramatically. I think Turner stays right where he's at and signs a team friendly deal with the Dodgers before this season is over. Remove those 3 and Amed is at or near the top of the SS lists.

I have to say that as good as Amed has played last year and this year there's a legit reason to keep him. Oddly enough it isn't his quality of play that makes Amed appealing as a player to me. It's his attitude and professionalism. It's so fucking admirable and it defies the logic to deal him at times. That's why you won't hear me complain should they extend him. When Tito's talking to a young player all he has to do is point to Amed and tell him no matter what your results are play like that MFer. Yeah, I'm a fan.

I changed my banner so it would be more appropriate.
