We know what Goddell wants and he obviously appointed a puppet to make the decision he wants. He doesn't want to talk about any other elements of her decision that led to 6 games?

Goodell all but said he’s getting the whole season.

So that’s that. Harvey was always just going to give him whatever he wanted because there’s a huge, public conflict of interest there.

I watched the entire interview on NFL Network.

Personally, I think the NFL would absolutely prefer avoiding court and settling at 12 games + fine. Problem is, Watson will never go for it. Maybe 12 games, or 8-10 games + fine, but not both 12 games and a fine. And I get it, in that scenario he'd basically be paying to play at that point.

Hopefully they can reach a settlement. Otherwise, I think Harvey comes through with a year and this will go to court and get dragged out even further.

Worth noting that Ray Rice had an "indefinite suspension", then a "full season suspension" and then it was eventually 12 games.

And this is the most likely outcome as well...

Yep.

If Watson doesn't get the season, it would be a shock at this point.

Goodell will have gone from kicking a female justice’s decision aside on this case about female victims and handing it to a male justice to get the decision he wants.

Looks shady as shit and while it should be a PR nightmare, he won’t care and it won’t matter bc the fans will support the product either way.

Just completely casting aside Sue Robinson like a pair of dried up beef curtains.

The funny thing is that this statement would be 100% true if the NFL didn't suspend Watson at all either.

Here's how I see it -

1. Hiring an outside former US District Court judge makes the NFL look like they value the legal input from a woman in a case where women are the focal point. It helps paint the NFL in a favorable light and gives them what they wanted, a measly 6 game suspension. Cue the outrage from everyone, especially women. The NFL dominates the news cycle.

2. Outrage over only suspending him 6 games. NFL looks foolhardy for not punishing him more severely in the first place. Gets people talking and demanding more. PR nightmare.

3. The NFL hires Peter Harvey (which (I'm assuming was their goal all along), former AG of New Jersey. In noting his qualifications, the league said Harvey "has deep expertise in criminal law, including domestic violence and sexual assault, and has advised the NFL and other professional leagues on the development and implementation of workplace policies, including the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy."

4. It's likely that Harvey ends up suspending him more games and fining him a significant amount of money. The NFL now looks like it takes the issue more seriously, is tough on misogyny, and regains the respect of women because they are seen as dropping the heavier hammer in the end. It dramatically improves their overall image on social media and, once again, dominates the headlines.

In the end, it was all about optics.
