Preseason Game 1: Browns at Jaguars 8/12/22

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wonder about Rosen.

Whereas it is true he has been a fucking flop, it is also true that one could not pick worse situations for a young QB.

I wonder if he is salvageable and if a team like the Browns, Watson drama aside, might offer stability and a chance to learn and become a long-term good back-up QB.

Also, I hate that I was so wrong about him. A notable miss.

A lot of us got bamboozled by the RCF hive mind with Rosen. You aren’t alone.

The game was good besides the starters looking horrible and Nick Harris going down.

I like Harris and would never be cynical about an injury to one of our own but his strength was a specific concern as a prospect and getting overpowered to that degree whilst losing your balance against a specimen of that nature will never end well physically for anyone. Shit fucking sucks and I just wish him back to normal day to day activity at this point.
who was Harris going against when he got hurt?

My "guy in the know" pulled me out of the Rosen Hive, but nudged me into the Darnold Dungeon. Out of the frying pan and into the fire!

At least I was on the Allen bandwagon...

So it’s the system that produces talent in the running back room. But it’s the system that causes Watson to suck after not playing for over 900 days. Both of those systems were created by Stefanski who you said earlier in this thread would be replaced by next year.

Got it.
Watson is a qb not a rb. He can’t scheme for qbs. It’s not that complicated to figure out.

Was this bad scheme? Because this was the first play of the game off play action and I see a wide receiver literally running by himself for what would have been a 20-yard gain had Watson actually thrown an accurate pass. Are you suggesting Schwartz wasn't schemed open here off play action?

How about this? Is this bad scheme? Classic slant/flat combo that frees up the fastest player on the roster running towards the endzone. Because Schwartz dropped the pass, it's a bad play design? Is it not smart schematically to get your track star running north/south in a straight line?

LIke if these two plays are just executed appropriately, Watson is 2/2 for 30 yards and everyone is jizzing themselves.

Conclusions from yesterday’s game:
1. Schwartz can’t catch
2. Watson is quite rusty
3. Nick Harris lacks strength and it really cost him. Feel really bad for the dude. But he got bull rushed into an injury on the second play of the game. I struggle to see how this wouldn’t have been constantly exploited and also wouldn’t eventually lead to an injury anyhow.
3. Playing a mixture of starters and backups on offense seems like a great recipe for bad execution - and that’s what we got on the first three series.
4. Never draw conclusions from pre-season games :)

I didn’t think Watson was that bad.

The only really terrible rep IMO was the first play of the game where he just sailed a wide open Schwartz.

Schwartz also had two stone cold drops on balls on his hands, but those were good passes and decisions by Watson.

Add in the fact that he lost his center on the 2nd play and he was probably amped up to be playing. Watson will be fine. I think Stefanski was smart to get him outa there when he did.
