The Jazz needed some tangible assets for Mitchell, and Lauri was one of them.. I don't think LeVert gets the deal done as he's an expiring and, on top of that, is an expiring that likely can't get you a 1st rounder in return before the deadline... Lauri is young enough and signed to good contract where he can play his way into their core or return them a 1st down the line..

You have to give to get, and the Cavs had to give Lauri if they wanted to acquire Mitchell without breaking up the core..

Lauri was the one part of the trade that hurt.. Seeing him in the starting lineup with Garland, Mitchell, Allen and Mobley would have been fun..

A lot of people saying Markannen wasn't;t good enough for the long term or that we had a gaping hole at SF now getting all worked up. It is what it is. Regardless of whether he ascends further in the NBA or just plateaus around what he did for us last year.

God Lauri has been looking incredible. He looks like he's leveled up in his perimeter skills. Really pissed Koby wasn't more patient in order to keep this dude.

Agree. Koby showed he is not a tough negotiator. The Knicks were already out at that point.

Pleased.

Once we added mitchell, no need for lauri, and I love markkanen. There just aren't enough shots left for him after garland, mitchell and mobley. He needs to be a 2nd/3rd option and that is no longer a possibility here.

Wrong to say there was no space for Lauri here. There’s always space for a guy who can hit threes and defend at even an average level. Now we have only a couple of competent shooters on the team - Mitchell, Garland, and Love. Unless you want to count Wade and Osman as shooters. We gave away three good shooters in that deal (counting Sexton, who maybe you could say we didn’t give away)

Grrrr. Losing him is the one thing that sticks in my craw about this trade right now. (we’ll see if I feel different in 2029 lol)

Lauri is killing it in Euro ball. Good for him, he looks great.

In no way shape or form would he ever have that role on this team or in this league(on a winning ballclub anyway). I liked him but I didn't love what I think he would be on this team as a playoff performer. I feel like he'd be a liability come playoff time when things get a hell of a lot tougher. Watching him guard SFs was not a good feeling at all and it definitely would be exploited in the playoffs when teams have more time to game plan.

I'm most appreciative for him helping us land an all-nba level talent while keeping our star core. What Lauri is doing in the Euros Mitchell has already done in the higher stakes, tougher competition NBA playoffs.

I wish Mark nothing but the best but I don't miss him nearly as much as others.

Dude has been Legendary for the National Team. I'll give him that for sure.

Bro we got robbed! :celb (13):

No seriously, I think Lauri has a great chance to be really good for Utah. I imagine they'll be able to feature him more than the Cavs were able to, play him more to his strengths. Lauri has shown to be a somewhat inconsistent player, but if he figures out how to bring it more often, I think that probably makes him a nice 2nd or 3rd option on a good team.

He was always kind of a weird fit on the Cavs, his best role was probably the role that Kevin Love currently plays for us and Lauri's kind of an ascending player so it's much better for him to get a chance to play a bigger role. I'll be happy to see how he does for Utah, I hope he continues to get better and I wish him success. Same for the other guys in the deal!

I think it's cool that Koby will take a guy who's in a bad fit, bring him in, rehab his value and then trade him to a better situation and bring on a better fit. I think that's what he's done here with Lauri, Utah is a better fit for him and Mitchell is a better fit here. So, imo, it's a good fair trade.

The point isn't what's good for Lauri it's what's good for the Cavs! As you say Lauri is capable of being a third option on a good team, so it would have been fantastic for us to have him at SF as opposed to the mess we have there now. Yes he's not ideal defensively but I don't think he was unplayable there especially when backed by Mobley/Allen.

Oh well.

If he kills it in Utah and Mitchell sucks here, I will regret it. I thought Lauri was going to be really good this year, but no way I think we are better off not including him and blowing up the trade.
