Magic Number - 1 for Division ... Minni Eliminated ... Our Elimination of #2 seed is 2

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think it is pretty much set. Looks like Plesac is going on Sat in AAA. That lines him up with a Thursday Tampa start over Morris (get him a pen day or two to get use to it again for playoffs).

Quantrill is the only one that needs to be pulled out of the current rotation to save him for WC as he is lined up to go next Friday and thus would go last game Wed (but not enough rest for WC). Thus, don't be surprised if they just flip flop CIvale/Quantrill with the off-day coming on Monday (giving another day rest) to have Civale/Plesac end our season. Or, they can just go an opener with whoever isn't sent down McCarty/Morris for that last game (and Pilk can come up too for the last day as he will be eligible by then to come back).

But, Pitching will be interesting as to the mix
This year in the 7-game ALCS, they play 5-games straight and thus need 5th starter.

Yet, I see Morris as a vital piece of the pen (I would also say Vargas if he got any innings) but how to fit him in?

Starters - Bieber, McK, Quant, Civale
Backend - Clase, Stephan, Kar and Hentges
Middle Inn - Sandlin, Santos, Morgan
That's 11 (2 more to go)
Extra - assume Shaw and Plesac due to the experience over McCarty or Pilk but I rather see Morris over Shaw.

You may not see Shaw in the playoffs... Also for the wild card round, we may only see 11-12 pitchers on the roster since it's a best of 3...

If the Guardians were in the AL east they would be in third tied with Tampa. I hope the media is done and can shut the fuck up about the weak AL Central now.

Agreed. The AL and NL Central have battled for the weakest division. Here are the current records

AL Central 350-399 (.467)
NL Central 347-751 (.462)

Overall it is meaningless, but I too hate that the AL Central is often regarded as the weakest.

Somebody already mentioned the NL Central, but the AL West is nothing to write home about either.

AL East, NL East, and NL West are clearly some excellent divisions, but the rest are all about equal, in my opinion.

I never understood the constant bashing the AL Central gets. We can only play the teams on the schedule in front of us. Winning a division, no matter how "weak", is still a major accomplishment.
If we get wiped in the first round, that doesn't take away from how big winning the division is.

see the coasts have the real teams. we are just flyover country

AL West is shit. They have one of the worst run franchises in baseball (Angels), the perennial loser (Mariners), a team most people forget about (Rangers) & the cheaters (Astros).

How pathetic is it that for the last decade, two of those teams were usually irrelevant and neither the Angels or Mariners ever made a run?

After this unexpected sweep of the Sox, our new expected Division Clinch Date is:

Wednesday, September 28th.

We should have this locked up before our six game homestand against the Royals even starts.
Well...the Guardians keep winning and the Sox keep dropping games to the Tigers so the expected clinch date keeps zooming forward.

With a magic number of 1, the Guardians are expected to clinch the division tomorrow, Sunday September 25th.

I'd honestly like to see them do it at home and pop champagne at the 9.5k fans.
