2022 Season | Series #49 | Rays @ Guardians | Sep. 27-29, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He‘s only 26 and has repeatedly proven to be a big bat for us; José has already stated he wants him back. The camaraderie on this team is too great not to bring him back. Let’s not forget, also, that he started the season in the outfield as well.
he'll be back on his ARB III contract.. perhaps extended might be more than the fans should expect.. but they can hope for it..

i didnt say WHEN he would be leaving

I wanna play these Rays at home, let's make it happen!

Tampa relievers Calvin Faucher, Brooks Raley, Colin Poche and Jason Adam struck out seven straight Guardians batters starting with the last two outs in the sixth through the first two outs in the eighth. Cleveland’s batters, with the fewest strikeouts in the AL, struck out 14 times.

I didn't realize they had seven consecutive K's and 14 total. Now I'm kind of hoping we don't get them in the first round. After five games the cumulative score is Cleveland 20, Tampa 17. Two teams with good pitching, both starting and relief. A playoff series against these guys might involve three extra-inning games.

But we did get hammered by Seattle this year so I suppose if I could choose I'd pick Tampa, although if Glasnow can go five in a couple of weeks that would not be good.

Quantrill goes for his 15th win tonight in his second-to-last start. He's 14-5 with an 8-0 record at home. He has not faced Tampa this season. His ERA in four September starts is 3.42. He's been consistent but not dominant. He does tend to get good run support but that is questionable tonight with a very tough lefty going for Tampa. Nobody currently on the Rays has faced Quantrill more than three times.

Jeffrey Springs, 30, is having a great season at 9-4, 2.56. Springs was a reliever his first four years but the Rays converted him to starter this year with great results. He's coming on strong with a 1.78 ERA in five September starts. He gave up three runs in five innings against the Guardians in late July. His longest start this year has been six innings.

Springs is better against righties than lefties and of the current Guardians the lefties have had more success (Kwan 2-for-3 and Gimenez 1-for-2).

The Guardians might have the edge in the bullpen since the Rays' pen pitched 13.1 innings the last two nights. Seven of their relievers have pitched both nights although Guera only threw two pitches last night. Only Clase and Karinchak pitched both nights for the Guardians.

The Guardians lead the season series 3-2.

Tampa has a five-game lead over the Orioles with seven to play so barring a complete collapse they will be the 5th or 6th seed. They are one-half game ahead of Seattle in 5th place but after tonight they play six on the road against Houson and Boston while the Mariners play seven against Oakland and Detroit.

I don't know if Tampa really cares whether they play Cleveland or Seattle in the first round. The Mariners are staggering to the finish with a record of 8-12 over their last 20 games. In their last four series they're 1-2 against the White Sox, 1-3 against the Angels, 1-2 against KC, and 1-1 against Texas - all sub-.500 teams.

But the 2015 Royals went 11-17 in September and won the World Series while the 2013 Indians went 21-6 and lost the wild card game. Once the playoffs start it's a whole new ballgame.

By the way, the Guardians now have an 11-game lead with seven to play.

What we want is for Toronto, Seattle, and Tampa to all go down to the last game to decide which one gets the number one seed. The number one WC spot is the only thing that makes a difference.

If everything comes down to the last game of the season, none of them will be able to set their rotation for us without forcing a starter to go on short rest.

Seattle is scheduled to pitch Logan Gilbert on Wednesday after a double header on Tuesday. He then wouldn't be able to go against us on regular rest.

Seattle holds the tie breaker over Toronto.

Tampa holds the tie breaker over Seattle.

"Big bat".

He has yet to post an above average offensive season at the MLB level. Even this season he is 1 0-10 stretch from back to league average numbers. He doesn't get on base and he doesn't hit for power.

Those aren't the makings of a longterm piece in a market that has to be selective with who it locks up longterm money with because getting it wrong sets you way back.

And when has a player wanting another player extended and paid whatever it takes to keep them in their situation ever backfired in sports!?!?

Jose has had numerous best friends and mentors on this team in his time with Cleveland. All of them have moved on and he has too. His opinion on the matter is nice, but Jose isn't making decisions that can affect the long-term success of a franchise with regards to players not named Jose Ramirez.

Interesting scenario. What do you think would be more valuable, setting up your rotation or getting home field for the series? I feel like I'd rather set up my rotation and keep my top bullpen dudes fresh.

ETA: instead, I think we should be rooting for Batimore to snap their skid and win some games to put pressure on the 3rd and final WC team so that they'll have something to really go balls to the wall for to close out their season.

If anything Jose may be helping out both the team and Rosario in the end. Cleveland isn't going to just dump Rosario and with endorsements from JRam and Tito, maybe it will help Cleveland get a better return on trade and/or get Rosario better money when/if he does get to Free Agency. The players are okay with Rosario staying and Cleveland's FO isn't one to hurt chemistry if they can help it. If they keep Rosario, I feel like it's because they couldn't get the deal they wanted for him. They have what they want for him in mind, so if no team reaches it, they will keep him. They don't gotta trade him...

On paper I want to move him because I want to get Brennan, Freeman, etc the chance to get a roster spot. I feel like both of those guys can put up similar numbers with the bat if they play everyday...

I would only trade Rosario for a young established controlled SP. maybe a pkg of Amed and pleasac plus a lower prospect

There, I fixed the name spelling lol

I would think if you packaged those two together, I would think you could get a solid return... You aren't getting what you want for it though. Why would a team send an established SP of any age for a rental SS, who's specialty is getting hits and nothing more. I would personally target a LHRP who could be of use in high leverage situations plus as many 21/22 signees/draftees with upside since they aren't near Rule 5 eligible... Though Cleveland isn't east to predict since they don't go by the normal rules lol
