Game Thread | 2022-23 Season | Game #1 | Cavs @ Raptors | Oct. 19, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Really missed Garland in that second half even though he turned the ball over too many times. Second half felt like last year when we needed another boost when Garland had to do too much. Hope his eye is ok.

Spider was excellent. He made it look really easy, made some great passes, and played some decent D. I kind of wished we put in Love more in that second half when we needed scoring. Having Love would have helped that late stretch there when we couldn’t score.

Allen had some ridiculous blocks tonight. Mobley had some great defensive plays and some spectacular offensive moments. Mobley does need to improve on rebounding but I will see how he goes throughout the season. Love could have helped there.

Liked the passing. Sometimes, we just couldn’t get the passes there or the refs didn’t give us the foul when it was supposed to be a foul.

Levert was great when not doing too much. I actually liked his fit in that first half.

I seriously hate Toronto now. I’m sure this team will remember to bounce back and put a star on the calendar.

There will be pains and getting used to.

We are a better team than we look. Really like this team a lot. Off to Chicago.

Mobley is still a twig. I don't see that added muscle. But he's still rusty, missed preseason didn't help.

Doesn’t grantee anything.
The other alternative is pray for a steal and if you don’t get it you have to travel the length of the floor in a few seconds and try to get a heave and hope the Raptors don’t foul before

Individual stats:

Starters:
Mitchell 31-2-9 with 2 steals in 34 minutes. 12-21 FG Great start to his Cavs career! He carried us.
Mobley 14-6-1 with a steal and a block in 35 minutes. Only 10 shots. Hmmm. I'd like at least 15
Allen 13-10-0 with 2 blocks in 34 minutes Only 8 shots. I want him to get 15 too.
LeVert 10-5-7 in 34 minutes Only 2-7 FG
Garland 4-1-3 with 2 steals and a block in 13 minutes He didn't get a chance to get going.

Bench: 31-14-7 in 28 minutes. We outscored Toronto.
Okoro 0-0-0- in 12 minutes. Oops. Try again
Love 8-7-2 in 21 minutes. Only 1-4 from 3. If he makes 2 more, we win.
Wade 8-3-2 with a block in 22 minutes
Osman 17-3-1 in 28 minutes. A good Cedi game.
Neto 0-1-0 in 6 minutes. Not a good look, but he did better than Okoro.

Okoro just doesn’t fit with this team

Whenever he’s playing it’s basically 4 on 5 offensively.

If the very least he did was bulldoze the rim unrelentingly then hey least we got a guy that can draw fouls pretty good. But this dude doesn’t even do that. He’s more of a finesse slasher but the fact that he has no touch at all keeps him from even doing that well. He needs to play how Alonzo Ges used to play. Just catch the ball and try and catch a body every time. Because at least then we can gameplan around that. Okoro not knowing if he wants to shoot or pass can’t be gameplanned for. It’s absolutely too easy right now just to gap defend him and just give up any points he may finesse into

I for one am really upbeat about this team. We lost our offensive engine before half time. And we still were right there to win in despite the screw job by the ref. As long as Garland is ok, feeling very positive about this game

Wished a Cavs would of gone for a gone for a fake block or steal to whack one of those mfers in the head. And refs were a joke today. Not only did they not call many fouls 1st half, they let the cry babies all up in their face when Raptors got a call again them

It’s only one game. Come back healthy DG. And the next time the refs decide to put their whistles away, JBB has to put Lopez to send a message.

He’s not gonna get a qualifying offer. He could get moved as part of a bigger deal, but he is a liability at this point.

Looked like a JBB coached team at the end. Come out of a timeout and they get the ball in to a guy that is completely uncovered. Then, at the end they get a dunk from full court in 3 seconds.

Levert and Okoro are already on my nerves one game in. If they don’t suck, we should be good if not really good, but they both looked like trash again.

Mobley looked eerily as awkward and clumsy on offense as he did last year. It’s one game, but I was hoping to see some more polish.

Raptors are a tough matchup because they get physical and expose our lack of skill in a lot of areas on offense. That being said, it should have been a comfortable W if Garland doesn’t get his eye gouged out.

Maybe get Mobley the ball in the mid/high post more against this midget team. Throwing him the ball outside the 3pt line and watching him try to go ISO on some wing player with his baby deer dribbling style is brutal to watch. And it will never be good offense.

Allen's physicality, or lackthereof, remains a concern. Just played a team with no bigs and he got manhandled all night by 6'8" dudes and guards. No bueno.

I would like to include Okoro instead of Lauri in that Mitchell trade, but just wasn`t possible. At least we can trade Okoro for sack of balls I think, because guy is afraid of shooting the ball, who needs him?
