It's an extension of last season. I wrote it in the gamethread.
I want him to mix and match more and abuse matchups. Last night he had to put Allen against Bol Bol. Twice before he was subbed out during both halves he completely bullied him under the basket.on both occasions the Cavs could have iced the game had he stayed on the floor. Instead he subbed him out and kept Mobley in.
Cavs should dictate the natchups, not the other way around. We have so many options to choose from to abuse particular matchups. There also isn't a valid explanation to why he couldn't give Lopez a few minutes. I didn't see anybody that could guard him and he could have been paired with Mobley to assist him with help defense. A little bit of toughness, great screening and easy points is worth the occasional 3pt attempt by Bol.
It's not a shame to play deep early in the season and I'm not convinced he would gave been abused on the other end. So far he has played great.
So let me get this straight.
You want Jarrett Allen out there more to abuse the mismatch against Bol Bol, but also want the team to play deeper and give Robin Lopez more minutes? At the expense of minutes to Jarrett Allen, the C you want to see on the floor more. I'm reading that correct? Or are you wanting to pull Jarrett Allen in the regular season at his normal break times, but instantly sub him back in the moment you see Bol Bol go and check into the game?
And Allen was subbed for Mobley. Shouldn't we expect Mobley to also abuse a matchup with Bol Bol? We're talking about Bol fucking Bol.
And if you want the Cavs to "dictate the matchups" wanting Allen in the game solely to abuse Bol Bol when Orlando puts him in the game sounds an awful lot like Orlando dictating the matchups. If you want to win the matchups, then I would be agreeing with you.
And play deeper how? If he plays Okoro even 1 second he is bashed by the play a deeper rotation crowd and fans in general. If he plays Lopez against a young team that plays fast and he gets ran off the floor he's an idiot for even putting him in in the first place. His starting PG and backup PG are both hurt. Play deeper how? I think he is doing a great job spreading minutes around right now. Only one player played more than 35 minutes last night in a game where his rotation was only 9 deep and the game was close until the last few minutes. Tells me he is not pulling a "Thibodeau" and isn't running his starters into the ground, and is playing his bench players deeper minutes when they are playing well.
The only guy I don't understand getting no run with the Cavs effectively playing PG free basketball at the moment and opting to play more wings is Lamar Stevens.
And this goes back to last season too. Play deeper how with no Rubio, no Sexton, multiple bouts of Covid, Garland missing a lengthy stretch, Allen missing a lengthy stretch, Mobley missing a lengthy stretch. It's saying something that the only player on the team last year who played in 70 games was Kevin Love, who had played like 70 games in the previous 3 seasons combined. So play deeper how? I see all the complaining about guys like Okoro, Pangos, Valentine, Nembhard, Rondo, Windler when they play meaningful minutes by the same people perched up on their high horse screaming the rotation needs to be deeper. It makes no sense to me.
At this point you guys are just nitpicking out things every coach does throughout the regular season and acting like only JBB does them. Go watch Pop, go watch Spo, go watch Nurse and I am sure you will see head scratching subs in your eyes every single game, or them sticking to their rudimentary regular season sub patterns when their players are available...if you can even objectively do that that is.
