Game Thread | Game #11 | Cavs @ Kings | Nov. 9, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Kings easily could be starting Monk next to Fox OR both Davion Mitchell and Monk along with Fox who are both better overall players than Huerter.

Clippers could start Wall next to Jackson and PG.

Warriors could start Poole.

Celtics could start Brogdon.

Cavs could start Okoro.

Cavs could start Okoro.
Regardless of the debate of whether its better for this team to have LeVert start or come off the bench, could you imagine having even a functional guard/wing coming off the bench in Okoro's place. Even if it was just for 8 minute a night. Like I'd salivate right now about being to swap out Okoro for just a KCP, Deanthony Melton, Alec Burks, or Terrence Mann type.

Since Garland returned to the lineup we’re giving up 114.8 ppg in the games he plays.

We’re allowing so much penetration on the perimeter, and it’s just leading to so many threes for opposing teams. Not sure what the solution is. Wade over Caris in the starting lineup helps, but I don’t know if that alone will solve things.
We’re not (especially DG) fighting through or over the top of key picks! AND our big men are not showing hard on the top of pick allowing the ball handler get free easy and penetrate the paint. Seeing the game in person allowed to to really see how weak we are on perimeter defense. Garland reaches too much!

I feel like I saw a lot less of that than you're suggesting. Did it happen at times? Sure. But that's not how I saw our offense for the majority of the game and I feel like several of the Garland misses were good looks and several of the assists were careless or him trying to soon to do what he was doing in game 50 of last year.

That said, I watched tonight's game on my iPad instead of the 70 inch so maybe I did't have the best view on what was going on the whole time.

I kinda feel like you've come up with a thesis, feel really good about it and are ready to publish it now and that maybe because of that you're going to see more of what you're looking for or amplify the moments you do see that fit the thesis.

But shit, you're pretty damn smart so maybe I should just re-read your thesis and give it more consideration as full formed and not needing any new data.

I don't really think it's a thesis though, my brother

I kinda feel it's "color by numbers" or "construction paper and elmer's glue" instead of some elaborate oil painting

I watched probably 6 of the 13 games on tonights slate in real time, while also watching 4 college games (can't believe Louisville got upset at home for Kenny Payne's first game, and can't believe LSU looked like dog shit against UW Kansas City aka Our Lady of the Elms) and I'll probably go back and speed watch the games I didnt watch in real time like Raps/Rox, CP3 less Suns/Wolves, Blazers/Hornets, etc over my morning coffee.

I'm a bball junkie, and when I see something suboptimal, I point it out and keep an eye on it waiting for the inevitable adjustment to be made that I prescribed

Kinda like grabbing a new album and picking out the 2nd radio single before it ever hits the airwaves and then nodding to yourself when everybody catches on like 2 months later.

That's what this feels like. I saw Sexton being shipped away and Garland ascending right after the 2019 season.

I can tell you Dillon Brooks wont work long term next to Bane and Morant.

I can tell you from body language and demeanor that Luka isnt the biggest fan of Dinwiddie

I can tell you once Indy trades Buddy, Mathurin and Haliburton are going to be the next best backcourt in the East after our two guys in about 2 years

I can tell you Will Handy is a in-game tactical genius and he coached circles around Nate McMillan after doing the same against Ty Lue and back to back games against Taylor Jenkins and Memphis. He's my early fav for COY

(shrugs)

Stagger these three guards and worry about Rubio complimenting them when he finally gets back. It's easier than we're making it

Tonight proved that Mobley will never be an alpha? That's an ambitious take.
That’s a perfect take! He let a player 3-4 inches smaller than him (Barnes) take him out of his post game. The kid needs to hit the gym. Too light in the ass!

I’m trying out why Robin got a DNPCD tonight! He was needed inside tonight!
Lopez played for a stretch in the first quarter when Allen or Mobley (can’t remember which) picked up some early fouls.

Mmmmmmmm must have been a quick appearance while I was at the concession stand! And looking at the box score now I see it was!!! Three lousy minutes in a game where we were being mangled inside.
Great coaching there, JB! ;(

My biggest issue with the team right now is that Mobley and Allen are just on completely different wavelengths defensively. Like there's no communication.

They don't rotate in logical ways. They'll both help on a drive and give the ball handler 2 wide open players to pass to. They don't back each other up on the glass. It's just two big individuals out there.

For my money they've both been better w/o the other in the game.

I'll check later to see if stats back that up.

Find me a game when all three of Darius, Caris and Donovan started and all 3 had a positive +/-

(you cant do it)

They are 2-2 and in the two wins, one of the 3 always has a negative

While the best playmaker for our reserves each night is Kevin Love from the midpost. This is elementary. But we insist on forcing a square peg into a round hole. Just like TT at PF and just like Collin Sexton at SG.

Bring Levert off the bench and we win the Clippers game and this game going away.

It's early but the net rating of this starting unit is just going from not good, to bad, to scary "Oh My God we can't play them together anymore" levels.

Only five games. But you probably can't let it last another five games before making a change.

It's that bad.

I bet after tonight's the game the net rating of that unit is gonna be near -15.

You can even feel it in the eye test. Every offensive possession, one of them ends up being pretty unengaged. Basically wasted on offense.

What would you suggest?
