No matter how you slice and dice, there is not enough PT to wade thru the eleven prospects Bimbo mentioned....and only one (Noel) fits the RH 1B/OF/DH hole.

There is no PT available at 3B, one MIF, CF, LF, and LH 1B/DH. There is no PT at SS, if Rosario is retained.

The value of many of those eleven is already dying on the vine as their options tick away...just as it did with Jones and so many before him...and Brito has been added to the mix.

You can't develop prospects by having them sit on the bench as utility pieces (Arias, Freeman) nor by having them backed up all the way to Lake County, because of roster overfill.

We already wasted Jones value. Palacios and Benson have none. Another year of bench duty for Freeman and Arias will eliminate theirs, just like Clement, Chang, and a half dozen others.

We could trade two MIF prospects right now, and still have five of Rocchio, Tena, Brito, Martinez, Arias, Freeman, and Rosario for one spot over the next four years (Gimenez isn't going anywhere), by which time we will have an entirely new batch. Util MIFs are a dime a dozen.

Meanwhile, the FO is trying to get to the World Series now, and even more prospects aren't gonna make that happen. Not one prospect we have is going to provide the RH pop this team needs this year. Plus, we certainly aren't gonna spend at the top of the market to bring in a top tier FA that will provide that RH pop, and that can also play 1B/RF.

Naylor is considered the starter.. sure.. but is he set there?.. granite?.. or something a little less permanent?.. Same with Arias.. He's limited as far as rosterbation.. so he has to find more than just a single preferred spot (SS). That could be 3B for days off for JRam.. 1B.. because he can.. etc..

As far as Miller goes.. you, more than anyone else on this forum sang his praises as a hitter first.. Well, he's no Greg Nettles with the leather.. but, given the right circumstances, he's shown, in streaks he can hit.. More of those circumstances need to be engineered so that Miller can contribute.. Also, Miller was bad learning 1B.. and no savant at 2B.. he won't ever be that bad again.. At least I can dream on it..

Abreu is the most unlikely scenario.. so, we don't really disagree there.. but, there is that pet peeve: the idiotic unsupportable statement regarding the absolute zero chance of something happening or not happening.. without actually knowing.. sad when it has to be repeated again..
He's set there for the start of 23 minus a RHH partner.

Arias' best position is SS and he's one of the better defensive SS in our system.

Not quite sure why you suggested that I sang Miller's praises as a hitter first that could play 1B. I never suggested he should move to 1B because I've never thought it was ideal. He's not a 1B and his bat doesn't profile well there, and I'll still sing his praises as a hitter because he is likely to be a good one, but where in the hell is he going play for this team?

No we don't really agree with Abreu and his absolute loss of good power should put up a red flag for you too. Maybe it was an outlier or maybe the soon to be 36 yr old is on the down swing.

Yes, I'm stating that OGon will absolutely never, ever, in a million f'n years win a GG. I know it, you know it and everyone that has watched him knows it. 0 chance of happening.

Not: "..as a hitter that can..." just as a hitter..

Never suggested you suggested that the suggestion that Owen Miller could be suggested as a 1B...

No absolutes in baseball.. Down swing is subjective..

..and I don't really care what other appraisals of O-Gonz is.. he'll never be much of a defensive player regardless of where he's at inside the white lines..

Got it. I don't think Owen has a place in Cleveland if I'm being honest. However, I do believe if he gets regular AB at 2B for another team that he will pleasantly surprise. He's a good hitter and always has been.

Edited to say that OGon can become an acceptable defensive RFer. Hell, if he continues to hit like he has his current defense is perfectly acceptable to me. Kid can swing it and has a rare knack for putting the bat on the ball. He's so damn strong that even his mishits can find a hole.

Personally.. I believe Spongebob has two dreaded diseases.. 1. Alergic to leather.. 2. Magellan Syndrome (wanders all over the earth in a vain attempt to arrive at where the ball is hit)..

Yeah the glove work isn't pretty, but the 296/327/461/784 and 125 OPS+ sure was. Especially for this team whose OF looked dismal to start the season. Hopefully he can keep that pace up. If he doesn't then we're hurting for another RHH with power.

I feel like Cleveland at the current moment will have Kwan, Straw, OGonz and Brennan between the 3 OF spots and DH... So the end of the game should always have a solid OF on paper...

DH isn't included in Kwan, OGon, Straw and Brennan. That's the 4 OFers. DH will primarily be shared between OGon, Naylor and whatever RHH they might pick up. I'll be up front and honest, those 4 aren't favorable IMO. 3 CFers and a RFer that probably should be a DH isn't ideal to me, but whatever. We'll go with whoever they put out there and I'll still hope for the best.

I’m still on the Christian Walker Bandwagon, perfect for what we need……
Absolutely, but it takes two to tango. I mentioned here somewhere that we could possible address a few needs in a trade with the DBacks, but we have to make it worth while.

Perhaps it should be noted that Bimbo mentioned we are keeping tabs on CJ Cron (Rockies) and Christian Walker (Diamondbacks).... Both teams we conducted two off-season trades with. Both those trades could arguably be seen as favoring Arizona and Colorado... Is there a bit of a welcome basket/goodwill gambit at work?

I believe it was mentioned we have already tried to grab Walker. Hope we try again.

I believe we have already tried once to grab Walker, and hope we try again.
Would Arizona be willing to deal Walker and both Kelly's? If so, what would we have to give? All I have is questions.

Cron fits the description too. I wanted him 2 yrs ago.

Those four will rotate between OF and DH... Straw probably won't DH often, but you will see Kwan once a week at DH, OGonz a couple times a week etc, while Brennan plays all three OF spots throughout the week, while being a pinch hitter/running/defensive replacement... At least with the current roster...

I doubt it. Naylor will be getting some time at DH and possibly the lion's share. Why do you think they're looking for a RHH with some thump? The 4 OFers you mentioned will be exactly that........OFers. OGon will probably get more DH reps than the other 3 combined. The only question I think remains is who is the 4th?
