The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not to sound provocative, but I finally uninstalled Persona 5 Royal.
I really really tried to like it, but at about 25 hrs in I said enough is enough.

New Armored Core officially announced by From Software.

Finally.

Let’s go!

Horizon Zero Dawn was on sale on Steam so I went ahead and bought it again since I never finished it on PS4 and never bought the DLC.

I just can't help but see the dumbass religion in this game and not think of Rick and Morty.

"These people are backwards savages, Aloy!"

Finally finished Callisto Protocol.

It was... fine.

The game was good overall, but I expected more. Kinda disappointed. If you were on the fence about this one, wait for a sale and the story DLC.

Any Breath of the Wild stans in here?

I picked it back up for the first time in a year tonight. I was only like ten hours in but I do want to beat it. Once again though I am just not getting the appeal (yet). I haven’t played a Zelda game since Wind Waker but historically I adore the series. I’m finishing HFW on PS5 right now and going from that to BotW was such a jarring difference not just in framerate and graphical quality but just overall feel.

Played for maybe 30 mins and shut it off. Wondering if I’ve just outgrown Nintendo games or what. Felt similar with Mario Odyssey. Or maybe I just need to throw a few more hours in and see how I feel then.

Either way, made me kinda sad.

Just finished GOTG.

Story was good. Game was fun. Combat was like 3 out of 5, but the game was short enough that by the time it actually started to get stale, it was almost over.

I like the non-MCU storyline. I hope they explore more of that. I almost hope they start a GOTG series, but you don't even need the games to follow each other. Make a bunch of one-off's. "Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy in __________"

picked up soccer story on game pass. liked golf story and it parallels it very well except with a soccer focus.

So my take, BoTW is a really good game. Its a terrible Zelda game. It just doesn't have a lot of the charm of traditional Zelda, garbage dungeons, no enemy diversity, breakable weapons etc. If you play it as a game that happens to be set in Hyrule but isnt a standard LoZ game, you may enjoy it more.

Hoping BotW2 has more dungeons and traditional Zelda stuff. The open worlding of all games takes away the charm of some of the classics imo

It’s not just you.

I’m a huge Zelda fan and collector. Look at my top ten games list and honorable mentions and you’ll see the series pop up in there plenty of times.

When they released the remake of Link’s Awakening, I bought it day one and pretty much couldn’t put it down til I beat it.

BOTW has been the toughest game in the series for me to actually get into, and I can’t quite put my finger on why. Objectively it’s a fantastic game - a huge world to explore, secrets aplenty, lots of activities and side quests to take you off the beaten path. It’s the same exact stuff that draws me to games like RDR2 and The Witcher 3 (I guess you could throw Elden Ring in there as a recent entry, too). But, yeah… I don’t know if it’s the pacing, the fragile weapons, etc.

It’s just never been able to capture that same magic for me as other titles in the series have, even if it is a great game. I’m about to give it another run myself, now that I’ll have some time off around the holidays.

Interesting.

I will put some time into it over the holidays as well. Let me know if it clicks for you.

You can tell playing Elden Ring that it took a lot of inspiration from Breath of the Wild in the way the world was set up...the verticality, the focus on exploration over exposition, and the ability to go pretty much wherever you want straight out of the gates. And I think that, in turn, Breath of the Wild brought some inspiration from previous From games into the Zelda franchise with the unforgiving combat, sparse narrative, and the complete lack of hand-holding that is traditional in Nintendo titles.

I decided to give Cyberpunk another go. I played for ten hours or so back when it first came out but then opted to drop it and wait for some much needed optimization and quality of life improvements.

Glad I waited. The game seems like a significantly better package than it was back when it first released. The outfit system by itself is a huge upgrade. Every single unique piece of clothing that you pick up is remembered by the game, even if you sell or scrap it, and you can put together outfits with those pieces that visually override the actual items you have equipped. This means you can equip the items with the best stats while still having a character that looks how you want them to look. It's such a simple addition that makes the game so much more enjoyable.

I started my new game from scratch, and went with a street kid background instead of corpo this time so the first couple hours of the prologue were a little different, at least up until the heist, which was exactly the same. Still, I needed a story refresher anyway.

Game is a lot of fun so far. Looking forward to digging more into it.

Finished Horizon Forbidden West. Loved it. Could spend another 30 hours doing side content but I am going to play some other stuff and come back in April for the DLC.
