Saying there's basically no difference when his efficiency in important areas have literally improved while playing next to another ball dominant guard like Mitchell that was not here last season is a poor take.

you're overgeneralizing from small changes. his true shooting percentage went up by .016 and that is mostly driven by an increase in free throw attempts (his efg% improved by only .004). One would expect his efficiency to improve by even more when playing next to a guard like Mitchell who draws a lot of defensive attention, and also due to natural maturation.

He's basically the same guy we saw last year. Not sure these two are complementing each other as much as they could be yet. Which is good! It means we still have room to grow.

I need some proof of these expectations prior to them playing and by how much to gauge them because this feels like moving a goal post.

Just looking at some advanced stats-the fact that Garland is not going to the All-star team is a total snub. He is third best point guard in league and perhaps in top 6 players in league. What a snub.

This might be heretical to say but perhaps we got the best player in that draft.

If Zion ever gets healthy, but that isnt going to happen. I still say Ja has the slight edge over Garland, but Garland works better in the back court with Mitchell imo.

Also, are you saying Garland is better than our very own Windler?

According to cleaningtheglass.com, Garland ranks 9th among point guards (out of 31 who have played at least 600 minutes) in on/off. He's ahead of Morant, SGA, Fox, VanVleet, Smart, Paul, Lowry, and Russell, among others. That puts him in the 81st percentile.

Obviously on/off is not the final word in evaluating performance, but the point is that Garland makes the Cavs better when he's on the floor, more so than four out of five point guards who average 10+ minutes per game.

Of the eight point guards who rank higher in on/off, five of them are much older; Jrue Holiday (32), Stephan Curry (34), Alex Caruso (28), James Harden (33), and Damian Lillard (32).

Trae Young (24) and Luka Doncic (23) are the only point guards ranked above him that are about his age (currently 22). Jose Alvarado of New Orleans, who is not a starter but has played 1,200 minutes, is 8th. He's 24. Ja Morant and SGA, age 23 and 24, are right behind him.

In a couple of years as 30-somethings Curry, Lillard, Holiday, and Harden fade from the ranks of the elite I think Garland will be recognized as one of the top five point guards in the NBA along with Doncic, Young, Morant, SGA, and possibly Fox.

Garland is a top 6 player?

Garland has now tied Ira Newble on 230 games played for the cavs, 50th all time.
