23 Offseason GM Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
As GM of the Guardians, I am not making any major trade, unless it makes the present 26 man roster significantly better now.

No robbing Peter to pay Paul. No sideways moves. No trading the very good present for the nebulous future.

The future arrived last year, and is gonna be around for a long time.

No the future didn't arrive last year. You got a sample of it and the best is soon to come. There is no "robbing Peter to pay Paul". There is only adding to what is the actual window of opportunity.

I do find it funny how you can talk about the future arriving last year with 17 rookies debuting, then out of the other side of your mouth mention "nebulous future". Nobody needs to argue your points because you argue amongst yourselves.

The same future you were pretty much the last one who believed in them?

You were 100% wrong last offseason on winning with rookies, yet it doesn't stop you from shamelessly making some nebolous told you point about Amed being traded or not.

The Giants just shutdown Crawford and the Mets are shutting down Quintana. Just saying.
...and cubs fans are being not encouraged to panic due to the spring Dansby Swanson is having..

Why are people yelling at each other in a fantasy GM thread? Knock it off. Just for that, I'm trading Xavion Curry, Brian Lavastida, Logan Allen Sr, Logan Allen Jr, and Skipper for Mike Trout and Shohei Otani. And the Angels thank me for it. Prove me wrong.

How much do we panic about the spring being had by most of our bullpen and Josh Bell?

We have nothing better to do! Lol

So the elephant in the room is that if the G's want to bring Gallagher as the backup C, they need to open a roster spot. Some people (Mandy Bell) think Roman Quinn has a pretty good chance too because he's made a good impression on Tito.

So we need to trade a couple of prospects. Ideas?

Bilous, Palacios and maybe even Lavastida are getting close that DFA/trade edge.

Gallagher/Quinn over Viloria/Brennan is hard for me to rationalize at this point. Maybe Viloria can't opt out with his contract, but Gallagher can - who knows... Seriously, anybody?

I don't see Roman Quinn making the team, unless it's Richie Palacios's spot. Which at this point is fine (it's MLB baseball baby) with me. A cash/PTBNL later deal for Richie if not outright DFA is closing in.

@Criznit ...

Yeah.. we're getting to that time of Spring Training where roster construction is being bandied about without a lot of hope that a gem can be acquired for that extra guy or two who, by moving, can create an open roster spot for a guy the team really wants to keep/promote...

Both Quinn and Palacios offer nothing every other club doesn't have four of.. The return for any/all of these types of guys may best be described as.. "...it's in the players' best interest (both quinn & palacios) to return to the minors.." This way they get regular at bats and play every day.. At this stage of their careers.. the only option they may have is going to the minors for another organization.. So, it's better the devil then know.. At the end of the day.. they usually (almost always) don't matter, anyway..

Someone asked about prospect trades.. any one of fifteen catchers would be the best/nicest target.. If you want to know who.. ask..

Wouldn't a team with a poor farm system (Angels, Mariners, Atlanta), be interested in re-stocking their systems? We really need to free up some space for flexibility. You could even dangle Plesac or a MIF prospect to make a package more attractive.

Trades are hard to do now, because everybody's looking to cut people. Other clubs may not be too Keen on making a trade for a guy that they feel they can just pick up off waivers. More likely is the team takes a guy off of the 40 man and hopes they can scoot him through since every other team is doing the same thing.
