2023 Guardians Spring Training Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
News flash:

Kansas City, in spite of its spring training record, will be eliminated long before the season nears its end.
Didn't folks say the same thing last year about the Gs? I see a young lineup populated by decent prospects, a veteran catcher to lead the staff, and a borderline HOFer to help the rotation. They lack a Jose Ramirez but have vet leadership. They are as poised to make noise as the Gs were.

Only guy I'm mildly concerned about is Oscar Gonzalez.

Not concerned at all about the pitchers. We know that the org takes it slow to get them through the season.

Pries has been a pleasant surprise for me. Both at the plate and at 1B. He could be this season's Alex Call or maybe even Oscar Gonzalez. The fact that he's still in camp is a sign that the brass has taken notice.

Not much on the pitching side. Michael Kelly looks best to me, but not sure it's enough to crack the opening day roster. 0

Why OGonz though? 4 K's in 25 ABs so it's really just BABIP. He's at least shown that his approach can lead to some results and as long as his bat-to-ball doesn't degrade I don't exactly see him falling off a cliff as long as he hits the ball with regularity and hits it hard.

You can't be serious.

The Guards were coming off an 80-82 season, caused mostly because the rotation was decimated the year before. KC lost 97 games last year.

The Guards had Jose, Bieber, and Clase. KC has nobody that matches those three.

Their HOF pitcher would be our #3...#4 if Civale stays healthy. (If you dont believe me, check out Greinke/Civale numbers over the last two years.) The only other SP they have that could make our rotation is Singer.

The Royals have some good looking youngsters that I like...Witt Jr, Pasquantino, and Melendez. But we have kids...Arias, Freeman, Brennan... with more upside fighting for bench spots that are more highly thought of than some of their starters.

And the Royals have very little depth to cover up for any injuries.

Where's the "Around the League" thread, or the "ex-Guardians" thread?

Will Benson likely to get more early pt than expected as Nick Senzel will start the season on IR for the Reds (go figger)

In the around the league subforum.

Thanks - out of practice - thank goodness I have spring training down here in Dublin

Put Gimenez in for Arias and this certainly seems like it's gonna be Francona's regular lineup against RHP.
Gimenez is sort of occupied with some other stuff.. pretty important to him, too..
