2022-2023 NBA Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The NBA has “high hopes for squeezing far more money out of media outlets in negotiations for future TV broadcast rights,” in part because tech giants including Amazon and Google have “told the league of their interest in streaming the games,” according to Sahil Patel of THE INFORMATION.

Sources said that the league “wants to triple its current revenue from TV deals.”

Sources also said that Amazon is “interested in the NBA rights” but it has “no intention of overpaying for a high-priced NBA rights package.” The company “may hold off on getting locked into another decadelong and exorbitant contract while it waits to see whether the NFL deal is successful.”

Both ESPN and Warner Bros. Discovery are “struggling under heavy debt loads and dealing with a steady erosion of the cable subscribers.

” Sports and TV execs said that the NBA will “need to temper its expectations of how much it can increase the fees, arguing that the economics of the deal prices they’re targeting simply don’t work.”

A source said that the NBA is “confident it can get a good deal” as the league argues that it "draws a younger, more diverse audience spread out across 260 nights per year.” It is “already seeing demand for rights from both existing and potential new partners.”

A streaming-only package “opens the door for tech companies to bid on rights” as interest “expressed by Google’s YouTube and Amazon raises the possibility that some NBA games could be available on Prime Video, YouTube -- or even Apple" if it "decides to bid” (THE INFORMATION, 3/15).

Hope this happens for this reason:

I really only keep cable (Xfinity) because I pay for the NBA package to be able to record Cavs games (I am never free to watch live with kids and life). So, live streaming on illegal services is not an option, and the cable tv is best cuz I get an HD view on my big tv, and can watch anytime.

I really want to cut the cable, as our xfinity bill is $250/month for only tv and internet. We rarely watch live tv cuz of kids and life. Only watch dvr stuff (which can be attained from one of the services) or Disney+.

When is the TV deal up? I'd love to sneak in a star at SF bc of a cap spike while the rest of the crew is here.

Laughing my ass off at these teams like the Lakers and Warriors load managing their best players all season long with .500 records only to realize "oh shit, we might miss the play in and playoffs!" like it was surprising.

I’m surprised no one has posted how the Celtics were given the game agaisnt the wolves last night. The nba has a rig problem is bad really bad

I hope the 76ers and Celtics are gone after the second round. Both teams are full of whiney bitches.
Result of nba allowing bad behavior. This is crazy players want calls on everything and refs call shit based on how the game feels or money line this is getting way too crazy tbh there’s no intergrity. Sixers and Celtics won and they post they routed this teams no they won because of bad reffing and that’s how you know this is going to the wrong direction. Teams should not be playing agaisnt opponent’s and refs at the same time time smh rules are to be enforced not to be interpreted however you want them to see fit

Robo refs can't come soon enough.

Of course they can. But at least the AI will tell us it made a call because it bet on the spread instead of us having to just infer it.
Facts!!!! But then again that’s why nba views are down each year. Casual fans turn on games and all they see are free throws players coaches bitching about calls. I remember back in the day when players would raised their hands when they committed a foul and say my bad now players either clearly foul or flopped trying yo get a call and immediately starts bitching about the call is so infuriating tbh nba is just not the same even lilliard said it

Given the official live-replay crew having one job and missing obvious calls/fouls for review, I'm not sure I trust them with robo refs either.
