The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I got TotK. Played 2 hours last night before I ran out of battery and just reached the 2nd shrine on the tutorial island. Ultrahand is so much better than the abilities we had in BotW. The game is very enjoyable and def a good follow up on BotW so far. Kinda sad they took out whistle sprinting but what can you do.

Still does not feel like a Zelda to me. It is a game set in Hyrule, but is not a Zelda. That is totally fine, but I do hope we get another more traditional mainline Zelda game in the near future.

The game gets way better once you get off the tutorial island and into Hyrule proper. Make sure you head to the central town area first once you get to ground level so you can unlock the glider. You may get sent to the castle first, though, and then get the glider when you get back. Don't remember. Either way, the glider plus all the new abilities and the sky towers that shoot you into the air make traversal a breeze, and even more so once you increase your stamina meter.

Pretty damn excited for the Metal Gear Solid remakes/remasters/whatever the proper term is.

I think I outgrew this franchise. But I used to love them. MGS3 was always my favorite so I will definitely be trying the remake.

The main issue is the fifth game was unfinished narratively and felt like it.

I finished the Fire Temple in Tears of the Kingdom today. That was a lot of fun. The temples definitely seem bigger and more involved than they were in the previous game, and the Fire Temple in particular is large, multi-leveled, and filled with mine cart puzzles to move from floor to floor.

The boss wasn't as fun as the boss from the Wind Temple, but it was definitely more challenging. I also made it a bit more difficult when I forgot, twice, that you can't use bomb arrows when you're in a fire damage zone. Almost killed myself both times but managed to survive by a single heart or less. Burned through a handful of my better meals to stay alive.

The way each temple thus far manages to adjust the puzzles to fit the theme definitely calls back to older Zelda games. The Wind Temple features a ton of flying around to get from place to place, for example, whereas the Fire Temple requires you to frequently find ways to cross lava or navigate the aforementioned mine cart mazes.

I took a break between the Water and Lightning Temples to complete the Dragon Tears quest line.

Highly recommend you do that… and that you also have two full stamina wheels before you do. Not only is the reward well worth it, but there's a ton of story content from that one quest line.

Doing some more grinding before starting the end game
at Hyrule Castle.

Are you mostly mainlining the central quest? Or have you just played way more than me? I feel like I’ve barely even scratched the surface. I’ve done two of the temples and a bunch of side quests, but still have tons more. I have unlocked the entire map above ground, as I put a focus on that after finishing the Wind Temple. I have also been trying to find as many stables as possible to give myself easy fast travel points all over the map. I’ve done a bunch of the sky archipelago shrine quests too. The ones that make you find a crystal and bring it back.

Yeah, I haven’t done a whole ton of the actual side quests.

I’ve unlocked the whole surface map (and a good chunk of the depths) and done a ton of the shrines. I’ve unlocked probably most of the stables, but I’ve found I haven’t really been doing much horseback riding in this game.

I’ve done some of the treasure hunts for the armor pieces marked on your map with an X, and have also done some of the monster hunts. Probably still going to delay the main track for a minute while I unlock the Great Fairies for armor upgrades.

I play when I can. Usually I get a little bit of time in the morning or late at night after the little one has gone to bed, but then there are times where I go days at a time without even turning my console on.

Makes sense, then. I’ve focused a lot more on exploring the sky islands and doing side quests. I’ve barely explored the depths at all. Got the upgrade that lets you duplicate things you’ve already built and obviously had to go down there for the Fire Temple, but other than that I haven’t explored down there.

I am just running around right now trying to get my bearings. The shrines feel a lot better than the last game. No more of those stupid gyroscope puzzles. Totk is objectively a very fun game, but it still feels like a sidegame more than a mainline to me. Not a bad thing, but if you replace link with Warrior #28 it would still be a great game

I unlocked all the Great Fairies and one of the high-end armor sets that is absurdly expensive to upgrade. Back to the grind…
