2019 Browns Off Season/Roster Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That was done to add 2 trades together out of convenance

Not that this is a topic that deserves scrutiny, but that rumored deal involves Schobert and a pick for Williams. That's one player and a draft pick for another player. That is exactly what the OBJ for Peppers was or Zeitler for Vernon was.

The Zeitler/Vernon trade swapped players for salary concerns.

The OBJ trade was a blockbuster, where Gettleman was requesting multiple players. One demand, an offensive lineman, was initially Bitonio. That got moved back to Zeitler, and Gettleman/Dorsey agreed that they were fine with the Zeitler/Vernon framework even if the full OBJ trade never came to fruition. Another piece was a safety to replace the lost Landon Collins.

Schobert to Washington doesn't make the most sense. There isn't a salary reason to trade Joe, as he only makes 2 million this year. I mean, it's not completely out of the realm of possibility for Washington to ask for a linebacker in return, but they run a 3-4. Would they really target a 4-3 guy? Are they really willing to move their franchise LT after drafting Haskins this year? If I were moving Trent, a LT to actually protect my QB investment would be near the top of my ask list--not an out of position MLB up for a new deal after this year.

All of this is assuming that Trent Williams, with next year being the last one on his contract, won't request a new contract. Because if he does, his value plummets and I don't think we have the room to pay him--at least not without some serious cuts on this roster.

It also means that, even if everything above goes well, his 12+ million he's making next year is going to cause a serious squeeze on this roster.

The Promise of Baker Mayfield, and the End of the Browns’ Tortured QB History

One last reflection on the last twenty years spent looking for a QB for all the masochists out there.

My most pathetic moment was reading Manziel's leaked Patriots scouting report and convincing myself that we would be able to change the off-the-field crap.

FYI to any bandwagoners: read this before trying to get into any debates during the regular season. You must endure, at the very least, a semblance of pain.

I wonder if they have tried Corbett at LG and move Bitonio over RG. Corbett looked decent last year in preseason at LG. They need to figure out a better starting 5 on the OL one way or another.

Also I think Braxton has a better shot at making the team after last night. Willies and Strong having all those drops didn't help their case to be the #5 and #6 WRs. I think there is a big drop off with our WRs after Callaway and Higgins. My guess is they will use the #6 spot to sneak that guy onto the PS after week 4 when Callaway can come back.

Yes. He's significantly better than anyone on our offensive line who isn't Joel Bitonio.

He'd be a massive upgrade over Robinson or Hubbard.

I personally think we'd be better off spending resources on a guard rather than a tackle.

Tunsil was a 70.4 last year, Robinson about a 60, Hubbard about a 65, but Tretter was a 72.4, so better than either tackle, but not better than most of the interior. By comparison Ziettler was 74.5 and Kush was 55.5.

So maybe you forgot Tretter, but I agree he might help the left side and strengthen our overall line. I expect Kush to grade out in the 60's with better coaching and play calling, but then again that would bring Tunsil up too.

What do you think he costs to bring in? He is owed a bit over 2 this year and a bit over 10 next. So basically if we bring him in we can afford him and Greg this year, but next year we have to decide between him and Robinson. Tunsil from what I know is pretty much a left tackle, I dont think he has the power to play right tackle.
