No.. DC is wrong.. he's almost always wrong...
Hoese or Busch represent the kind of position player talent the current roster, both minor leagues and major leagues lack.. We have plenty of SP candidates.. and we'll draft and develop more.. That we can all agree has been and continues to be the strength of the Indians system. Adding a pitching prospect as a "key component" of a deal.. when position player talent IS the most glaring need.. seems to be the wrong move..
As far as trading JRam..now is the time.. better a year too early than a year too late. This year, there are at least four ML teams that are viable trade partners for a quality 3B that is controllable or more than a one year rental.. Trading JRam can bring home the bacon.. including his replacement..
As far as someone getting in the way / blocking another player.. that's EXACTLY the kind of situation the Indians NEED to have.. it's the only way for EVERYONE to get better..
Thoughts?..
I don't believe there is ever too many high level SP prospects like Gray. He would be the #1 SP prospect in the Indian's system if acquired. What we do have is a plethora of MIF prospects. Freeman and Bracho are both ranked higher than Hoese and Busch in the rankings I've seen. We also have Jones who will end up in LF or 1B. I think it will be 1B because he doesn't run well enough to play the OF IMO. I like Hoese, but I fear he may also end up at 1B due to his lack of range. If he can stick at 3B then I'm ok with what you suggested. I'd much rather target someone like Groshans for 3B in a Lindor or Carrasco deal though.
Clearly I agree that now is the best time to trade Ramirez, but MC/CA would need to have a brass pair to do it. They would take some serious shit, and the Dolans are cheap crowd would be screaming, but in a season or 2 this team could be a real contender with a roster that can stick together for a few years. Clearly the financial strain created by the pandemic is influential. The question is how influential and does it force CLEFO to be more aggressive in a retooling effort?
