Also, remember when Butch Davis released Kevin Johnson for no reason whatsoever other than he was not drafted by Davis?

Botch Davis. What a fool of a Took.

Is this relevant to the conversation? Or just a fun antidote?

Because berry was VP of player personnel when Baker was drafted and while it could all be lies I thought we heard numerous times it was the analytics breakdown that really propelled Baker to be drafted number 1 (meaning Berry was presumably on board)

There is a fair bit of difference carrying a corpse and carrying an offense with a good O-Line (something Stafford has rarely had), good receivers and, something he has never had, a good running game with real RB1s.

Well if you have good players all around you then you aren't carrying it, are you?

He shouldn't be someone throwing 35-40 times a game. Especially on this team.

IF he's cool throwing 20-25 times, again, then go do it.

Reminder that Ravens at Browns is in 15 days.

I if recall correctly, I think William Green got caught at KJ’s house with KJ’s girlfriend / wife, left in a rush, half-naked and then got pulled over for speeding...? In any case, Butch’s response was to release KJ, because, yeah, he KJ wasn’t the one he recruited.

Botch, good game coach (until it actually mattered), terrible GM, even bigger panicker.

PS—> can’t remember if William Green got stabbed by Asia before or after and/or because of this event. William Green was such a mess.

I know that the NFL doesn't want to but I see no other way out than a ravens forfeit.

The Matt Stafford who just got shut out by the Panthers and couldn't move the ball consistently against Houston?
Or the Stafford that played against AZ, NO, Ind and GB? You picked the worst game of the year. He had a QB rating over 90 against all these 4 teams.

Also, this is not an attack on you. I am just using your argument because I have seen it a couple times.

So I am will ask you:

Do you feel that the Lions built solid teams around Stafford insofar that their lack of success is on him, rather than the lack of talent?

Because, surely, people can see the difference between a good QB on a shitty team not finding success, and a good QB on good teams who choked, and was mediocre when the time came to step up.

Because I have watched more than a few Lions games the past few years and from my point of view, those Lions teams were not good. Stafford has had little to work with since Megatron retired and their line is putrid which leads to a non-existent running game. Their O-Line has ranked in the bottom half of the league the past 4/5 years. To put that into perspective, the Browns O-line was ranked higher than the Lions' O-Line in 2017, 2018 and 2019 when the Browns' O-Lines were considered awful.

Moreover, at least since 2015 or so, their Defense has been wanting. It was ranked in the bottom half of the league the past 4/5 years. I have never seen a team consistently lose so many games in the fourth quarter or after larger leads (until the Falcons this year).

I appreciate the questions!

I will agree that the Lions have had less than favorable teams around him for a while now. That said, I think guys who are as good as many would lead us to believe Stafford is, win regardless.

The best quarterbacks are able to regularly win games by themselves, and Stafford has never been able to do that consistently in his career. He has really good numbers for sure, but how much of that is a product of the entire offense being built around him (and not winning)?

You’re right that we’d be ecstatic if Baker replicated his success, but I personally would be ecstatic because of the context of that. Baker would be a young guy figuring it out who has already shown the ability to win games via deferring to the run game. At this point in his career, and at his salary level, I wouldn’t touch Stafford with a 10 foot pole.

I’m not sold on their future with Mayfield in terms of winning Super Bowls, but I’m confident he can pilot this team to the playoffs, and if his evaluation doesn’t shake out favorably this year and/or next, I’d hope the Browns would find their answer via the draft.

The only guy I’d want the Browns to pursue (and I’d be okay throwing EVERYTHING) at him, outside of the top dogs, is Deshaun Watson. That’s a total pipe dream though.

One of the things browns fans have started to do when assuming we need to win 11 to make the playoffs is assume that all favorites always win

Jets and Falcons up early on the Fins and Raiders. Would be a huge help if either can pull through.

Does anyone know the last time an opponents offensive line had a holding call against them?
