2021 NBA PLAYOFFS MEGA THREAD

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Quin Snyder, on Jordan Clarkson: "He tends to be the guy that gets you a bucket when you need it and he takes pride in that. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that he's really locked in defensively as well."

Paul George gets judged at a higher level because of the way he's acted in his career.

He's the one who called himself "Playoff Paul" and he's the one he wanted out of Indy and then out of OKC. Normally guys want out because the team isn't winning enough so when they do that and get to where they wanna go, then they better go win.with players no

IND wanted him out more than he wanted to leave. They had a lot of rifts in that Front Office and they continue to have rifts with coaches and players.

Not sure whether fans and journalists are keeping this in mind but there are two key factors to keep in mind with playoff series:

1) players and coaches do check their phones mid-game and can often be either demoralized or motivated by fan and journalist posts reacting to games. These posts often guide their play after the half which is why you will see certain play style changes after half time.

2) Players and coaches are people, yes. And yes, they have top of the line training. But you can usually predict the results of their careers very early on. If players struggle early, it’s usually a sign that they will do so permanently. Yes, there are exceptions to the rule like many of the guys in the playoffs this year. But look past this.

Man just occurred to me that if we got a Suns-Nets Finals, we' have Paul vs Harden. And they don't like each other anymore. And Chris Paul is known for getting a little dirty from time to time.

Why isn’t anyone talking about LeBron’s potential number change? You’d think this would be a hot topic.
Because it's the playoffs thread, not the summer vacation thread :chuckle:

lol a little dirty?

Chris Paul is probably the dirtiest player in the NBA at the moment and has been for a long time.

I'm sure there is a reason for his style of game, but Giannis just doesn't look that special to me anymore. He cannot beat teams who pack the paint on him unless he has a running start/fast break opportunity. His game has failed to develop, still, after this much time tells me he's never going to develop a jumper. I'm also slightly disappointed whenever I watch him play defense, although his numbers look good.

I really thought Giannis was going to be a special player with a lot of championship opportunities. Instead, he looks more like a guy that needs a star point guard in order to win. He should be a small ball 5 and needs shooters around him. Develop a post game or something, because being out on the perimeter during the playoffs...idk, it doesn't look like a winning strategy to me.

I think his best bet to turn into a guy who can carry a team in the playoffs the way Durant or LeBron does is to develop a legit low post game so he can play small ball 5.

Made this point the other day but he can ONLY face up and drive, no matter how small the player is guarding him. he has to face them up everytime. He's gotta at least be able to put the little players on his back.

I'm gonna go ahead and put a fork in the Jazz.

Donovan Mitchell simply isn't close to good enough to be your teams best offensive player. Not even in the ball park of the remaining teams best offensive players.

This aged well. :chuckle:

Edit: I wrote this before I saw everyone already gave you shit about it. Didn't mean to pile-on @Rich !

Lets be honest regarding Paul George. Laker Nation created some 'Pandemic P' nonsense and it's taken storm when the internet picks and chooses when to attack with him with it. He's no superstar, I don't get the hate of a very good #2 option that is extremely durable, tries to play defense, and can draw fouls with the best of them.

But he scorned the Lakers, he turned his back on the Staples crowd that was chanting his name at the FT line as an opposing player and how dare you do that, and for that he's crucified when he has a poor shooting night.

Doesn't the bolded contradict itself? #2 players on championship teams are superstars.

I think Paul George is a very good player, don't get me wrong, but he hasn't lived up to his own claims and expectations. He's been worse in in the postseason lately, outside of one good run with the Thunder.

I think it's been proven, at this point, that no team is going to win a ring with him as their best OR second best player.

Now, if the Cavs' deal to get him for Love hadn't fallen through and Irving could have been reconciled, you're looking at a dynasty. He has a ton of value, but a lot like Giannis being mentioned above, he simply can't be the guy.

I’m with @Real Deal.

Perception doesn’t match reality regarding his playoff performance. He’s been mostly good with a few hiccups, as you’d expect from a non-leading man.

People are just clutching onto this narrative and I don’t really get it.

Is Klay Thompson a superstar? Or should I say was? I don't think so. But he was a very good #2.

I mean aren't we seeing the problem with George right now.

Kawhi carried them last series. And he was the only effective defender against Luka.

So now here come the Jazz and yet another player is torching them every night. Isn't the deal supposed to be Kawhi will do the heavy lifting on offense and George proves his chops as an elite defensive player?

But so far George is stopping no one. He couldn't defend Luka for shit and he's not taking on the challenge of slowing down Mitchell either.
