2009-2010 Pre-Season Game 1 VS Bobcats

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Kurz and Karl looked alright. We really dont need any more projects, and we have alot of Centers and Forwards already, so I like keepin Kurz and Karl around, Karl seems like a good last resort ball handler, makes good decisions, not completely offensively challenged. Kurz can hit the shots too.

I think Kurz, Karl, Jawad, Darnell, Green make for a good scrubs team. Then if Powe gets healthy, we gotta get rid of one of them to make room.

That makes 16 players in total, 1 too many. Powe takes up a roster spot even though he is injured.

What did Boobie Gibson work on all summer? It damn sure wasn't his point guard skills.

My guess is that Kurz AND Coby get cut-assuming that Delonte starts playing soon.

With JJ playing well, and 'Bron playing some at the 4, I don't see a need for Kurz, so he is likely gone by the end of the week.

Karl is just protection for Delonte. He'll likely be cut soon also.

Then we need to trade Gibson for a guy who can play the point on the 2nd squad.

If JJ keeps playin that good, I dont think we need Bron to play any 4. In fact, if JJ keeps playin like that and getting better, we are gonna look foolish for carrying 5 PFs on the team.

I know it was preseason, but if JJ is able to be as active as he was tonight and is able to make the mid-range jumper like he did tonight, he should start over Varejao. His form looked great on the couple jumpers I saw him take, and they both went in. I didn't watch the whole game, but I see he was 6/9, so he must have been shooting pretty good.

There were plenty of people who wanted Channing Frye with part of the MLE; well, I'd say JJ looked every bit as good as Frye tonight, and maybe better. Again, I didn't see the whole game, but from what I saw, JJ was very impressive.

Well, we could always throw in DJ and/or Darnell in a trade along with Boobie for a backup PG. There's some value to having a lot of depth at a position; we just need to find a team that needs a little bit of added depth at PF and is looking to unload some depth at PG.

I could be off based here, but did anyone else notice that Lebron didn't look as "cut" (muscle definition) as his did last year? Is he trying to gain some more flexiblity/speed or is it early in pre-season?

Does anyone habe any insight on this ... just curious.

Well 1 of those PF's is injured for a majority of the year (Powe), and 1 is not someone you want near your regular rotation at all (Jackson). That leaves Varejao and Hickson. So I wouldn't say it'd be the worst thing ever to have Kurz as your 15th man, or to assume Lebron or Moon can find time at the 4 as well.

Watch a little bit. Darnell Jackson got HUGE, he looks like Shaq. No one will muscle us with Shaq/Darnell/LeBron out there at the same time. No team in the LEAGUE.

It'll be interesting.

So, who's looking the most impressive of the 8?

Personally, this is one of the best garbage time experiences I have seen from the Cavs. They were all fighting hard for that last spot, especially Luke, Coby, Rob, and Russell. Jawad and Darnell are looking a little laid back, but are trying as well. Watkins was meh while Andre did some decent things on the court.

So...

  1. Darnell (did seem to do anything negative)
  2. Jawad (was fairly decent, but did screw up a little, looked like a point forward)
  3. Coby Karl (drew fouls, was smart, was able to keep the ball moving effectively, unlike guys like Tarence)
  4. Rob Kurz (hit a three, did fairly well boxing out, was a factor somewhat)
  5. Russell Robinson (great effort on defense, twice did very good plays, drew attention somewhat, but very sloppy)
  6. Andre Barrett (managed to run the unit well on the floor, but couldn't do much defensively)
  7. Darryl Watkins/Luke Nevill (tied for last; one managed to do some work defensively, but was laid back; the other put in furious effort, but was manhandled by Ajinca)
It'll be an interesting battle that we should all pay attention to. Yes!
