2014 Preseason Game #2 -|- Browns @ Skins -|- August 18th

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well, I could write a scathing diatribe on the Browns, again but I'll wait until we see 2-3 performances like this in the regular season before doing so. Expect it around the bye week.

Meh. Just keep it simple... We suck. Move on. Go Cavs.

Yeah, Indians are making a playoff pu- oh wait, never mind. Well we got Ohio State coming on...oh, fuck. Browns are poop as usual, status quo maintained. Got the Cavs still ... knock on wood.

Hahaha that was interesting. Being from SC, I've seen almost every game Shaw has played. Not a ton of talent, but the guy is a winner. I hate his guts, but he knows how to win games. Not saying he should ever see the field this year though.

IM with Toph, shaw should be the starter QB for the browns by the end of the season.

all hail shaw :allhail:

Based on the Browns track record, he will be whether he deserves it or not.

Well here is my snap reaction after watching this game on DVR

QBs
Both QBs looked real bad. Neither were comfortable. Neither threw the ball well and neither got any kind of help from the WRs.

RBs
I liked what Tate did. He got up the field quick and was tough to tackle. I think he ended with 5+ yds per carry. If this QB play continues he's going to be a work horse. West was spotty. He had some nice runs but I thought he struggled.

WRs
Ouch that was painful. We knew we'd have a problem there but tonight was horrible even WITH Gordon on the field. What the hell was Miles Austin doing? He played a fair amount of snaps and never even was targeted.

Defense:
Mingo flashed a lot. His speed and hustle was evident. He was all around every play it seemed like and he could be a load to stop for O lines. Armonty Bryant I thought had a real nice game. He looks to be a pretty solid 7th round pick. Overall, the defense was giving up a lot of yards but ultimately forced TOs. I expected a better effort but if they can continue to force turnovers it'll be hard to complain. Gilbert was solid I guess. McFadden was largely bad with a few ok plays.

Officiating:
Holy crap are the illegal contact calls out of control. Give me a break. There is no way they can allow that to happen in the regular season. For a while there every play was an illegal contact. It's bad enough for the call to happen but the actual penalty is 5 yds and an automatic 1st down. It's absurd.

Coaching
Meh, the players didn't look prepared for the game so that's an issue. It is week 2 of the preseason and we don't have a starting QB established so I'll cut them a little slack but it wasn't a good effort on the surface.

Looking ahead
Hoyer was the leader in the club house going into the week with Manziel closing the gap but still a distant 2nd IMO. Both looked like crap so no one really helped themselves. I guess Hoyer is still the guy. I would expect Hoyer to be named week 1 starter mainly because Manziel doesn't appear to be ready yet while Hoyer at least can hold up to the speed of the game at this point. I hope Pettine doesn't drag this out another week. Establish Hoyer or Manziel as the starter and start prepping for week 1 with the guys you are going to go with.

Shitty receiver corps was shitty. Who would have thought? I wonder if Gordon doesn't just drop his suspension appeal after this. Hoyer had trouble tiiming up with him but Manziel was somehow worse. It is almost like one or the other doesn't know the playbook. Also, what does Pettine do now after the boxing gloves didn't work at all in preventing holding penalties on our CBs? Oven mitts? I assume the league is calling this on all teams this preseason so we will see how everyone responds to this. Tate looked good though, and the run defense still looked stout- at least from what I saw. Going to be a long year, but i think any rational person know that...

I'm very worried about our offense. We looked awful. I wish it could have been that WR were running the wrong routes, QBs not remembering routes... Stuff that can be coached and practiced

It was our QBs weren't accurate, receivers couldn't get open. Line looked okay.

The NFL is weird and we could end up looking good next week.
