It's that time of the year again! With championship week underway and less than a week away from Selection Sunday I figured I'd open up a thread for us to discuss all things March Madness.

Let's go Mountaineers!!! Lack of free throw shooting will kill us in the round of 32 as a 4 seed, calling it now.

Dunk City is the shit. I dont think they have a sweet 16 run in them like last year, but they're projecting at a 14 seed right now, and if smaller conference tourney upsets continue to happen they could jump to a 13 seed. I'll be rooting for them.

Also, that Iona/Siena MAAC final the other night was such a fun game and is really what March is all about. Iona can score with anyone but considering they were out rebounded by almost 20 against Siena... I can only imagine how bad they'll get crushed on the boards against a 2/3 seed with some size. Due to their scoring ability they could pull off an upset but they'll need the perfect matchup.

Last year? Man, that was 4 years ago.

My bad, I mean't last time they were in the tourney. But after looking it up they were in the tourney last year as well... just as a forgettable 16 seed. My bad on the typo.

Big Ten seeding was comically bad.

Minnesota at a 5 and MSU at a 9 are gross overseeds.

Northwestern at an 8 seems high as well.

Wisconsin as an 8 is too low. There's just no way NW and MSU are in the same seed line (8/9) as UW.

Hollis is awful.

The seeding was really bad, not only for the Big Ten, but teams like Wichita and Vandy as well. Wichita is much better than a 10 seed Vandy set a record with 15 losses for an at large team and was a 9?! Minnesota as a 5 was terrible but oh well, just made it that much easier to identify the 5v12 upset.

Overall though, not much controversy with the bracket. I don't think any team left out had a legitimate gripe over anyone else that got in.

SMU ranked #12 and getting a 6 seed. Good christ.

Just goes to show that who you beat matters. They beat Cincy but I think that was the only ranked team. They just rolled off a shitload of wins against borderline top 25 teams or shlubs. They're on an 18 game win streak including the AAC tourney domination.

The lack of love the committee has given "mid majors" the past few years is really annoying. From at larges to seeds, it's disrespect every year. It didn't used to be that way either about a decade ago. I remember years of the Missouri Valley, Mountain West, and Atlantic 10 getting 4-5 bids. Seeing mediocre Power 5 conference teams dominate the 10-11 seed lines is frustrating. Middle Tennessee State was like 30-4 this year and was seeded by most people around 10-11. They ended up a 12 by the committee which mean't they wouldn't have got an at-large had they lost in their tournament championship game. They were 17-1 in Conference USA! Is it a great conference? No, but it's not the MAC either.

I really don't even understand why they have polls at this point.

They are routinely ignored by the all knowing committee.

The Minnesota / Wisconsin thing is unreal.

Wisconsin beat Minnesota twice, finished ahead of them in the B1G AND got to the championship game.

Yet Minnesota got a 5 and Wiscy got an 8? Huh?

I'm not even a Wisconsin fan but what logic gets you to that result?

Yeah. That's a moronic one.

Just a little frustrated for my alma mater on the bias side. Then again if you go in as a 6 seed and lose to an 11, you probably didnt deserve to be there in the first place.

I'm throwing them in my Elite 8 obvi.

You're an SMU alum/fan?! Well shit, I dont need to complain to you about mid-major bias. SMU was one of the most egregious snubs ever 2-3 years ago.

Last year they had the ban, two years ago they got fucked on a last second goaltending call as a 6 seed against UCLA in the first round and the year prior they got snubbed and then lost in the NIT finals. It was asinine the year that they got snubbed. For some reason, the committee hates SMU. They should have been, at worst, a 4 seed this year.

This is their chance to develop some goodwill maybe? It's time for an elite 8 run. They have zero depth, but their starters are as good as it gets as far as the mid-majors go.

They play positionless basketball and their guard/forwards are extremely efficient from the field but not great passers. All but one can shoot from deep. Shitty FT shooters though. Could be a problem. They don't move the ball particularly well.

Their defense is tough. Holdover from when Larry Brown coached them. I do think they could make a run.

@Maximus is lurking in here. He's probably going to say something stupid about SMU, even though I'm fairly certain he went to Ohio and they've been fucking terrible in the tourney.

As far as MAC teams go, Ohio U has actually been the most impressive of the conference over the last 10-15 years. Upset Georgetown (who hasn't) as a 14 seed back in 2009 or 2010. And then beat Michigan as a 13 seed back in 2012, I think. They were actually super close to making the Elite 8 that year but lost to UNC in overtime. I went to BGSU and they're the only team to never win the MAC tournament and haven't been to the NCAA since 1968. Pretty pathetic.

Anyway, I'm pulling for SMU to do some damage. I usually root for most mid majors because an NCAA Tourney without at least one good mid major Cinderella team is fucking pointless.
