2018 Around the MLB Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sure, bud.

And the Indians were favorites in 2018, so we all know that the season is effectively meaningless now.

Maybe some more “wait til next year” jokes will help this take.

You’re doing great.

Were the Indians the favorite in 2018? Over HOU and NYY? I don’t remember that.

Here’s the thing AZ, while you clearly know sports, you aren’t as smart as you think. Secondly, let’s say you think the Indians are better than Oakland. Then lay out a sound argument for why, instead of just lazily resorting to snark of “oh look he’s a realist” for anyone who disagrees with you. Snark does not win a debate or discussion. You are part of the problem if you can’t see that.

The Astros, Dodgers and Indians were the top three teams at around 6 or 7:1 at the beginning of the season.

You came in here without any reason or argument as to why Oakland or Chicago are better, and you expect everyone else to take time out of their day to present some long winded analysis as to why you’re obviously wrong and haven’t put any thought into an argument?

Sorry, that’s not how that works.

Your blind pessimism isn’t worth the time to dissect, because it’s not genuine.

I read this as “Stark” does not win a debate or discussion and was going to come in and agree with you.

The Indians have 4 starters that would be the ace on Oakland. With Manea out for the year, you could make arguments for Bieber and a healthy Salazar as well. As much as postseason baseball is turning to strong bullpens, their rotation will hold them back drastically. I believe our lineup is better, but you're splitting hairs if you're going off last year. Their bullpen is much better, but we know bullpens can be very volatile from year to year.

I think the only teams that are a tier above the Indians are the Red Sox, Yankees, and Astros. They're better, but I don't think unbeatable. I think the Indians are on par with teams like the Dodgers and the Cubs. I think you could make arguments for the Braves and Brewers being in that tier as well.

Jigo tagged me and I was responding. Maybe I didn’t reply to his post.

The Indians flaws are well known. Shitty bullpen, top hitters go cold in October. Now I have watched enough baseball to know that bullpens can suck one year and be good the next, hence my wait until ASB comment. There won’t be much pressure or expectations this year, so that might help them. It’s not blind pessimism when I say they should win the division and will have a punchers chance with their SP. Obviously Jose can’t be trusted in Oct but that is just how he has played.

Oakland honestly is not a better team, if not for the emergence of guys like Olson and Chapman, they wouldn't have even been in the picture last season. They are still one of those wild cards next season.

I would advise you to pay attention to the off season and the moves this organization makes. We can currently win the division, but I don't feel with the current roster than we can win it all. I think a few moves (Aka cutting salary hogs like EE, Kipnis then signing a Marwin/trading for an Eaton to replace them) really helps put this team back into the top 3-4 teams in baseball.

Also don't forget Ramirez is still a young player, and going into his age 26 season. He is more experienced and likely really hungry to get some stigmas off of himself. I expect an equal year from him in 19 to be honest. I wish we could have a Brantley back, but we will only see in due time, but I think the guys will do better in October this season.

This has Indians interest written all over it.

Absolutely I bring in Tulo to compete at 3B on a minors deal.

Really, even with the injury history he is worth a free flier on in your opinion? He has missed so many games and the Jays at 38 million for a reason imo.

Per reports he’s healthy and training for the season out in Long Beach.

The Jays are fronting any meaningful cost.

Total Indians move to try and bring him in.

But would you do this move if you were GM?

Sure, why the heck not? Its at almost no cost, with a pretty decent best case if he's actually healthy and ready to go after a year away from the game.

Him being open to playing 3B is probably a contributing factor as well.
