2018 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What sets Clemson apart as a program (besides steroids) is their coaching staff, as @billmac91 has already touched on. They have an absolutely elite coaching staff at every level. Multiple Broyles award winners. Just elite guys that have been there for YEARS, are comfortable in their positions and aren't looking to use Clemson to springboard themselves into a HC position elsewhere.

It's why OSU has not been at their level since 2014. Look at that 2014 staff. It's loaded with elite coaches. After that, we started losing guys and Urban made some awful hires. Tim Beck to replace Tom Herman...awful. Greg Schiano to replace Chris Ash...bad. Stud to replace Warriner...bad. Bill Davis to replace Luke Fickell...horrible. Taver Johnson to replace Coombs...downgrade (at best).

If Zach Smith wasn't exposed, he'd still be our WR coach instead of Brian Hartline. Ridiculous. Not a coincidence we saw an incredible improvement from that unit this season.

Urban just had so many misses. He did make a couple great hires last year (Day, Wilson)...and subsequently just had our best season since 2014...not a coincidence. This despite having the worst defense in OSU history...which is also not a coincidence because our defensive coaching staff fucking sucked outside of Larry Johnson.

Previously, 2013 was the worst defense in OSU history with Everett Withers at DC. So...Urban replace him with Chris Ash and brings in Larry Johnson and...National Championship.

Coaching is everything in College Football. Hopefully Ryan Day is more consistent with his hires.

Look at their hires thus far:

Mattison - Not going for a HC role.
Washington - Not likely to be considered for a HC role
Hartline - Not likely to be a HC
Hafley - Not likely to be a HC soon

Raymond (not happening, but who they chased) - Not a HC prospect

Yep, I think it has been a very good offseason for OSU.
