Alright, folks, it's time to kick this thing off. First, though, a couple of "rules", if you will:
  1. When you pick, post justification for your first round pick(s). Provide some detail in why you made the pick, post a picture, highlight videos, whatever. Just try to avoid putting a name down and moving on. This thread can be an education on prospects, which is good if you're an NFL fan.
  2. After you make a selection, please send a private message to the next person drafting, or tag them in your post so they know they're up to pick.
  3. Try to check back here on the daily if you know your pick is coming soon. Quicker picks means we go deeper into the 3rd round or longer.
  4. Trades MUST be reasonable. You can discuss trades with anyone whether or not they have indicated they'd be open to it.
  5. Since tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day, we're not going to skip anyone. Also, if you make a trade please PM me so I can keep track. I'll do my best to keep things updated.
With that said, let's go cucks!

With the first pick in the 2018 RCF NFL Mock Draft.

The Cleveland Browns select...

Sam Darnold, QB, Southern California

sam-darnold-usc-trojans.jpg

Analysis: The Browns could have gone several directions in this year's draft. They could have avoided QB, but they're not brain dead, so they pick their top quarterback for the first time since 1999. It was close between only two guys here; Darnold and Rosen. It is our intention to allow the job to come to Sam naturally, whenever that may be. Rosen could step-in right away and play, but the Browns choose the guy who seems to posses impeccable intangible qualities and leadership with a professional disposition. We think he is going to hold the job for a decade plus once he tussles it away from Tyrod Taylor.

OVERVIEW

Right now, Darnold is the second-most famous member of his family. His grandfather, Dick Hammer, was a USC basketball player, an Olympic volleyball player, and actor -- in fact, he was one of the Mr. Marlboro Men. Sam's father, Mike, also played football at Redlands College and several other relatives were collegiate athletes. Soon enough, however, Darnold will become the top dog in the family. The High School All-American and Orange County Offensive Player of the Year (67.8 completion percentage, 2,996 yards, 39 touchdowns, eight interceptions) also excelled at basketball and baseball, even though he missed time with a broken foot (suffered during football) and a broken finger. Darnold redshirted in 2015, sitting behind Cody Kessler and Max Browne. Browne ended up transferring to Pitt after 2016, as he saw the mature, pro-sized, strong-armed, and accurate Darnold take his job. He played in all 13 games, starting the final nine, completing 67.2 percent of 366 passes for 3,086 yards, 31 touchdowns and just nine interceptions. Darnold also has the athleticism to make plays with his feet (62 rush attempts, 250 yards, two rushing touchdowns). He was voted first-team All-Pac-12 by league coaches in 2017, completing 63.1 percent of his passes (303-of-480) for 4,143 yards and 26 touchdowns on the for the conference champs. His 13 interceptions and 11 fumbles during his sophomore season have scouts wondering about his ball security skills, however.

ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS
Has desired NFL size. Trusts his pocket and keeps eyes down the field. Looks off safeties. Takes what defense is offering and won't overcomplicate it. Scans full field and eyes don't get bogged down on a single target. Gets through progressions like a pro. Throws with desired anticipation and timing. Isolates deep ball opportunities pre-snap. There isn't a throw he fears. Impressive feel for spatial relationship between target and defender. Trusts his arm and placement. Naturally accurate with tight spirals. Has arm talent to uncork it quickly. Rifles it to hitches and swing passes giving them time to operate. Has velocity, timing and accuracy to own the deep out. Tough in and out of the pocket. Feels edge pressure and climbs away from sharks circling the rush arc. Shakes off sack attempts and throws with accuracy and pace when on the move. Completion percentage unaffected by blitz. Sudden processor when faced with free-running blitzers. Can pump and re-calibrate. Tough runner who can move the sticks with his legs. Doesn't get shaken by in-game mistakes. Shows quality leadership and poise.

WEAKNESSES
Elongated release is impossible to miss. Ball drops to his waist with forearm pointed towards the ground, pre-delivery. Windup gives defenders early clue to break on the throw. Muscle memory may not allow for release correction. Turnover total is alarming. Finished 2017 with 13 interceptions and nine lost fumbles. Has 20 interceptions over last 20 games. Decision-making and field vision were inconsistent this year. Has a tendency to rush throws once internal clock winds down. Too much mustard on some short throws. Muscles too many throws rather than driving with lower half. Too willing to throw from uneven platform. Intermediate accuracy fell from 2016. Can throw with better placement and lead his targets. Deep ball touch needs work. Took sacks when incompletions were available. Rarely slides in the open field which has to change.

DRAFT PROJECTION
Top 3 overall selection

SOURCES TELL US
"I think he caught some backlash this year because of the pre-season hype and the interceptions. He's still the most complete quarterback in this draft with the best makeup to be a good pro." -- AFC Executive

NFL COMPARISON
Andrew Luck

BOTTOM LINE
At the end of the day, Darnold has NFL size, arm strength, accuracy, pocket mobility, poise and field reading capability. His windup is an eyesore for sure, but he has the velocity to mitigate the additional release time. While Darnold has the mental toughness and talent to start tomorrow, early sideline seasoning could help him better process coverages in an attempt to eliminate future interceptions. Darnold has the tools to thrive in any system and doesn't have to have perfect protection to succeed. His floor is solid starter, but he has the ceiling to be one of the top tier quarterbacks in the game as he gains more experience.

-via Draftek.com --which was significantly better and more realistic than CBS Sports this year. Still a little off, but it has tracked changes since the combine and interview process at the very least. This is as of March 11th, 2018.

I will try to keep it updated to Soda's original post, but if the mods can assist with this as well, it would be appreciated.

With the 2nd pick in the 2016 RCF NFL Mock Draft, the Cleveland Browns select......

Carson Wentz, Quarterback, North Dakota State

My Take:
The Browns had a very touch decision to make here. Take the larger project with the higher ceiling in Wentz, or take the smaller-framed Goff, who has feet that remind me of Chubby Checker in his prime...? I see the Browns being enamored with the strength & stability of the larger prospect (Wentz) in a tough AFC North. Even though he played indoors at NDSU.

While I am in agreement with the masses in thinking the signing of Robert Griffin III should not affect the team's draft plans, I have a different spin. I think the Browns had Wentz in mind while considering their options at this spot in the draft. By all accounts, Wentz is going to take some time to adjust to the speed of the NFL game. Having a bridge quarterback lends credence to the thought that the Browns do not want to rush a rookie into the game. My opinion is that the Browns are well aware that a ready-to-play Goff brings an unwelcome controversy, so they take Wentz being fully aware that there are things Goff has that Wentz does not, at this point.

Strengths:

  • Powerful arm

  • Pocket presence

  • Accurate

  • Experience in a pro-style system

  • Has the makings of good feet

  • Decision-making

  • Field vision

  • Worked under center

  • Throws into tight windows

  • Stands tall, steps into hits

  • Thrives despite a lack of talent around him

  • Worked under center

  • Potential for field vision

  • Good feel for the game

  • Throws well on the run

  • Mobile with running ability

  • Bails out blockers with ability to avoid sacks

  • Intelligent

  • Leadership

  • Football I.Q.

  • Winner; championship pedigree

  • Good character

  • Work ethic

  • Humble, eager to learn
Weaknesses:

  • Small sample size

  • Durability?

  • Big jump in speed of the game

  • Should fill out his frame
Summary: In the quarterback-hungry NFL, teams are willing to go far and wide to find their franchise quarterbacks. In recent years, some quarterbacks from smaller schools have had their names called in the first round of drafts. That group includes Joe Flacco (Delaware) and Blake Bortles (Central Florida), while this year's draft could feature two similar level programs producing first-rounders in Wentz and Memphis' Paxton Lynch. While other prospects like Lynch, Jared Goff, Cardale Jones and Christian Hackenberg have gotten a lot more attention, Wentz could easily be the first quarterback off the board.

Wentz was a backup in his first two seasons as North Dakota State won National Championships both seasons. Wentz kept the tradition going helping the program to win the title in the following two seasons after he became the starting quarterback. As a junior, Wentz completed 64 percent of his passes for 3,111 yard with 25 touchdowns and six interceptions. He had six touchdowns on the ground. In 2015, Wentz completed 64 percent of his passes for 1,669 yards with 16 touchdowns and two interceptions while missing six games with a broken wrist. He also had four rushing touchdowns.

From a skill-set perspective, Wentz is a legitimate "top half of the draft" prospect. He is an accurate passer who has the field vision to scan the field and distribute the ball. North Dakota State runs a pro-style system that saw Wentz making calls in the huddle and working under center.

There is no doubt that Wentz has an NFL arm that is strong and can really spin the football. He can make all the throws for the pro game. Wentz can load up and fire some fastballs into tight windows when he needs to. He also can put air underneath it and drop in touch passes. Wentz shows the pocket skill to stand tall, work through his progressions, and beat good coverage with well-placed passes into tight windows. Wentz's mechanics are solid and impressive for his lack of experience against top opponents given the lesser level of competition.

Wentz has good athleticism to scramble in the pocket, avoid sacks, pick up yards on the feet, and throw on the run. Mobility is a nice cherry on top for Wentz's game.

Sources from multiple teams have said they gave Wentz a first-round grade and think that he is the real deal. They say that Wentz has a good arm, size and athleticism, plus they love him off the field. They like his pocket presence, field vision, experience under center, ability to make play calls in the huddle, and his potential to grow in the NFL. One area scout also said that Wentz will fill out his frame in a NFL strength and conditioning program. That source said the big challenge for Wentz will be the drastic change in the speed of the game coming from North Dakota State's opponents compared to the NFL. Wentz also has a small size of starts to be evaluated from, but overall sources felt those concerns were minor.

In the 2016 NFL Draft, sources have said that Wentz could be the first quarterback off the board as high as No. 2 to the Browns. He looks very likely to go in the top 10.

Player Comparison: Blake Bortles. Wentz is a very unique player, so it is tough to find a comparison for him. In speaking with scouts, they feel the same way and think that his uniqueness sets him apart. Collectively, we felt that Wentz was an upgraded version of Bortles as a prospect. Wentz and Bortles have a similar skill set with size, arm strength and athleticism. However, Wentz has a bit more talent in every attribute. In terms of NFL effectiveness, I could see Wentz panning out and being a quarterback of a similar caliber to Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco.

@jlegg21 and the
San Diego Chargers are on the clock.

@Soda keeping up with the tradition of breaking hearts

With the second pick in the 2018 RCF NFL Mock Draft.

The New York Giants select...

Josh Rosen, Qb, UCLA

Analysis: While the Giants still want to compete with Eli under center, they still need a long term plan for when he retires. The giants find themselves at the top of the draft after having a disappointing season in which they were expecting to make the playoffs. The giants have patched up their problems at left tackle and addressed their weak linebacker core before the draft and looked at a more long term approach at 2 (as in they don't want to be picking this high again). The Giants believe that pairing Rosen with Obj, Sheppard and Engram is a good core to lead them back to the playoffs.

ANALYSIS
Strengths
Tennis prodigy with impeccable footwork and delivery balance. Plays with excellent coordination between eyes and feet. Gets head around quickly on play-fakes. Has experience under center. Anchors in pocket and doesn't creep around needlessly. Trusts his protection and doesn't take eyes of targets when pressure mounts from the edge. Climbs pocket when appropriate. Willing to stand and deliver in face of pressure. Completed 63 percent of his passes when blitzed in 2017. Accuracy totals negatively impacted by 31 receiver drops this year. Holds his water in pocket. Mechanics are terrific. Rarely over-strides and throws with consistently bent front knee. Throwing motion and follow-through are effortless. Extremely confident and intelligent. Throws receivers open. Might be best back shoulder thrower in the game. Shows ability to speed up operation time for move to next level. Very good usage of shoulder fakes and hitches to move defenders or buy additional time for receivers to uncover. Touch passer who can throw feathers when needed.

Weaknesses
Durability is a concern. Carries slight build and has had injury issues dating back to high school. Carries ball low in pocket with slight upward pre-throw hitch. Too casual in pocket set-up. Decision making and post-snap reads are inconsistent. Refuses easy throws at times. Arm talent and strength are below average. May need to make greater effort to drive field and seam throws. Poor career deep ball completion rate. Excess air under ball allows challenges. Lacks gun to challenge safeties with rip throws over the top. Needs better anticipation. Poor mobility. Struggles to elude early pressure. Completed just 42.4 percent of his throws when forced to move. Too much hero ball. Extends plays and takes unnecessary chances rather than throwing it away. Scouts question his passion for football and whether he will be a willing student.

Probably should have announced a start time.

Colts are looking to trade out.

Or you can follow the thread. I don't get paid for this. It's launched the same every year, with the new thread once teams are claimed.
Oh I get you, I'm just saying a little heads up would have been helpful.
