2018 UDFA Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Shamelessly stolen from jojo on obr

Antonio Calloway: alleged sexual assault, multiple drug offenses, and credit card fraud (I see at least one person has seen "Mo' Money'")
Simeon Thomas: academic ineligibility and dorm room theft
Montrel Meander: alleged sexual assault
Desmond Harrison: Multiple drug offenses
Zaycoven Henderson: Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (he pointed a rifle at a group of people) and tampering with evidence.

Maybe he’s setting up a top secret Black Ops unit to hide away on the practice squad and then activate and take out Big Ben and AB in week 1, Navy Seal style?

Yeah highlights from an 0-16 season are a real selling point...

what's next, he will read from Haslam's indictment?

It is actually a selling point. Better chance for a UDFA to compete and make the roster when the roster is void of talent on the back end.

LOVE this pickup. Guy was a projected mid-rounder and one of the best UDFAs available. Saw him listed as a top 10-15 OT in a lot of pre draft rankings.

Him missing the Senior Bowl with the flu was a huge factor in team just not getting enough info to draft him. Hopefully this is something we benefit from in year or two after he’s coached up more and developed.

Seems like they spent the 7th round working all these guys. I don’t think I’ve seen this many signings so quickly.

Love berry as a return man. I’m not a fan of using starters as returners to avoid injuries. He and callaway will probably compete for the return job.

With the Browns targeting so many off the field issues guys, I just pray that Callaway is the one guy that stays clean. That pick was an absolute steal if he stays on the field, the way he could be used in our offense would be so fun to watch. Disappointed we didn't snap up Holton Hill.

Started out at Texas before having some off field issues. Transferred to West Georgia and dominated lesser competition. As you mentioned he missed a big opportunity at the Senior Bowl. If he can gain 10-15 pounds without losing athleticism and develop he has starter potential.

It’s not as simple as targeting all kids with character/past issues like some kind of bargain basement store.

It’s a process. They like someone’s tape, and they vet them thoroughly. A lot of time and resources go into investigating prior indiscretions. They also evaluate the current state of the individual.

In the case of Callaway, he was clearly a plan going in as a result of the work spent on him. We did not pounce on a receiver at #35 or #67. Now, I’m sure we would’ve if our draft board indicated to do so. However, I think it’s easy to believe that Dorsey knew he’d be looking to grab Callaway—potentially the best WR in the draft—in the 4th.

This is clearly someone they spent a lot of time on. After all of said work, they deemed that he’s the type of guy they want to bring in for a 2nd chance. That gives me confidence.

After all, as you say—they had plenty of opportunities and didn’t take Holton Hill. He’s clearly talented. Why didn’t they take him? Well, it’s pretty simple. They vetted the player and didn’t like his make-up going forward in the Cleveland Browns organization.

It’s not as if all shitheads are going to have the ability or desire to stop being shitheads. That’s why Dorsey’s team conducted so many visits and interviews. They evaluated each case individually and decided who had a good shot to grow from a character standpoint moving forward.

If Dorsey had so many chances and didn’t take Holton Hill, then clearly they didn’t believe he’d be receptive to positive change at this current time. Thus, I’m glad we stayed away.

I added a list of UDFA confirmed to be signing with the Browns on the 1st post. Let me know if I missed anything thus far. Thanks
