2019-20 Cavaliers Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That's 11 turnovers for Drummond in the last two games. He says he's going to start jacking up 3-point shots, too. He's letting his inner point guard out to play. Better nip it in the bud, J.B.

I thought the league left playing through inefficient bigs in the 90s.

Seems like the Cavs do whatever it takes to try to accommodate certain players if they are in danger of leaving. So they let them do whatever they want.
I would let Drummond do whatever he wants the last 26 games. Who cares if we lose? If Drummond shows he can do more than set screens and rebound so much the better. If he embarrasses himself trying to hit 3-pointers and lead the fast break then it will be that much easier to make him stop it next year. Just show him the video.

Sure. I don't really care..i'm just saying.
Cavs is that ugly dude with no confidence who tries way too hard to please his girlfriend cause he too afraid she might leave him for someone better. And in the meantime she treats him like shit.

Either way, it has no real repercussions for this season, I think. And it would be in the Cavs favor if he opted in if not only as an expiring asset in a year.

The 4th/OT lineup of Garland/KPJ/LNJ/TT/Love was a great coaching move by JBB. Probably the better lineups the cavs had with the activity on the defensive end and good spacing on offense. They spammed the high-low play, punishing small ball lineup of the Heat and had great switching defense.

Garland, though overmatched physically, is passable defender.

You can tell JBB is doing some experimenting. Last game he put Dre and TT on the floor at the same time just to take a look. Ugh. Tonight he got rid of the small forward and went with a center and two power forwards. Much better.

It definitely sends a message to Cedi. If he's not playing well they can put in an unconventional front line of TT, Love, and Nance. All three are better players than Cedi and give the Cavs more size and presence in the paint and on the offensive glass.

I'm thinking the versatility of Nance and Porter will affect the Cavs' thinking in the draft. IOW, they can draft a 4 if he's the best player and move Nance to the 3. If a 2-guard is the best player then can take him and move Porter to the 3. They are not locked in to taking a certain position but can opt for the most talented player, as long as it's not a point guard.

Garland needs to figure things out next year. Like, really needs to. If he can get that sub .40 FG% up to par, while maintaining his decent 3P%, things start to fall into place for us. His distribution skills are a nice complement to KPJ’s skill set. Call it recency bias, but seeing the length KPJ provided on the court last night was a *click* moment for me.

Improved Garland
KPJ
Starting Caliber SF (easier said than found)
Love
Drummond

This isn’t...horrible. It’s not great. But two scoring guards with range let’s Drummond do his thing. Love doesn’t have to body C’s anymore. That would hopefully be at least three 3P threats and maybe four depending on the SF.

bench:

Sexton - 6th man. Insta points.
Nance - first big man off bench.
Cedi - glue guy. Makes right plays. End of rotation guy.
Exum - long guard. Depth.

I’m not doubting Sexton. If he can keep elevating his game, awesome. It just hurts my brain to imagine Sexton and KPJ working really well. If Garland takes the next step and the other young guards continue to grow, we will have three legitimate young scorers at guard. We have zero wings that should be getting a lot of playing time. Getting a two-way SF would allow Cedi to matchup appropriately on defense, which he’s rarely allowed to do. we need a wing badly. Not sure how this draft is looking in terms of those...
