2019-20 Cavaliers Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So apparently the last game of the finals is scheduled for october 12th,,,so when would the 2020-2021 nba season start?
When would be able to see the cavs on the court again?
I thought they were shooting for Christmas Day to restart next season,,,is that couple months enough of an offseason?
It may be pushing a year from the last game the cavs played to when we see them again.

At the latest, if lots of series go the distance.

Too much tradition on Christmas basketball for it to not happen, I still think. Not to mention they might want to still be able to call it the "2020-2021 season," not that stood in the way of the "B1G Ten" or the "2020 Tokyo Olympics" that are being held in 2021.

The NBA has to guarantee the top 8 slots in the draft are for the 8 teams left out. If not, that would be some straight up bullshit.

Apparently the top 8 teams will get no added benefit. Looks like the remaining 6 teams that don't win enough games during the restart to get into the playoffs will still be part of the lottery.

I agree with you, this is some BS. The Lottery should only apply to the 8 teams that don't get to restart.

This sucks. They should have to give up some odds to participate. I really hate the new lottery odds. It was good to have the Kings at the top of the lottery every year, it meant good prospects slid.

I said the thing that would really suck was the lakers getting a higher pick once Lebron went down with his groin injury. Everyone laughed at me, but we picked after them.

Wait does the bottom 8 not get their odds locked in right now? Or can the win percentage of the teams that keep playing change the lottery seeding?

Teams that are in the play in model and don't make it to the playoffs are still going to be eligible for #1. All seeding will be based on the games that were already played, except if Memphis gets knocked out of the playoffs.

Best possible scenario for Boston. They might get a lottery pick, but it can't be top 6 which would mean last pick in the lottery I guess.

TBH, I'm surprised there isn't a bigger stink about the Cavs being excluded from any organized activity until maybe next Thanksgiving. By that time, it will be like putting together an expansion team.
At the very least, I think the non-invited teams should be awarded an extra sandwich pick between the 1st and 2nd round of the draft.

Since, the season is over, what's the top 5 priorities for the team....

Since, the season is over, what's the top 5 priorities for the team....

#1 talent acquisition
#2 defense
#3 figure out what to do with Love and Drummond. I'm happy to keep both potentially, but there are caveats with that. One of them is Drummond needs to find a role and play within himself.
#4 Develop players
#5 Consolidation and begin building with fit in mind. That means maybe try to trade for a star player, maybe using Love/drummond and one of Sexton or Garland. This is one you start working on around the deadline, and if nothing is there you kick the can.

I like this idea....I hope it happens

As much I'd like this, I don't see it happening. Putting together a summer league like this without the newest draft class would make it that much more worthless. The NBA is trying to be as responsible as possible with the bubble they are putting together. The resources to put together another bubble for the 8 worse teams without the draw of the newly drafted class playing probably wouldn't make financial sense.

The bubble they are making in Orlando puts teams in quarantine twice. Once in their home city then again in Orlando. This is why it's starting July 31st.

With how careful they are being, I think they will play part of the 2020-2021 season in a bubble to start with. It might be 2 locations instead of one. They seem they want to start next season on time to make sure they can get the players to play in Tokyo for the Olympics. I think they know how much of an international marketing exposure the Olympics is for the NBA and it can set them back on track financial.
