I still think KPJ's best position will be as the SG -- the smaller wing. Perhaps his size/strength eventually will enable him to match up well against 3's, but that will be for defensive flexibility, not as a primary assignment. A guy who can guard 1-3 should be a 2. To the extent he has played/will play the 3, I think that's more a function of who else we have on the roster rather than it being his ideal position.
Windler clearly needs to add some muscle, but he's a natural 3.
I don't disagree, but Windler could be a long 2 as well. His game is really similar to Klay Thompson except he is probably drives and passes more. (not saying he will be as good as Klay as a shooter or that he he has overall more skills) I'm very interested to see how strong he is. I would guess from his rebounding that he has that wiry strength.
My point really is that Windler was basically a shoe in for minutes this past year because we needed wings and he was hand picked by Beilein. I think it is very likely they draft another wing unless the get Okongwu. Cedi, Porter, Windler, McKinnie and Nance at times plus a lottery wing. Windler is going to need to play very well out of the gate because there is going to be more competition this year and the coach who was gaga over him is gone.
Last year we heard Porter might spend some time in the Gleague and Windler would be getting the most minutes. Now, Porter has jumped up to one of the top 10 in the class(maybe higher). Windler is going to need to come out playing the right way. He very well might, just saying his spot isn't reserved like it was last training camp.
