2019-20 Cavaliers Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I still think KPJ's best position will be as the SG -- the smaller wing. Perhaps his size/strength eventually will enable him to match up well against 3's, but that will be for defensive flexibility, not as a primary assignment. A guy who can guard 1-3 should be a 2. To the extent he has played/will play the 3, I think that's more a function of who else we have on the roster rather than it being his ideal position.

Windler clearly needs to add some muscle, but he's a natural 3.

I don't disagree, but Windler could be a long 2 as well. His game is really similar to Klay Thompson except he is probably drives and passes more. (not saying he will be as good as Klay as a shooter or that he he has overall more skills) I'm very interested to see how strong he is. I would guess from his rebounding that he has that wiry strength.

My point really is that Windler was basically a shoe in for minutes this past year because we needed wings and he was hand picked by Beilein. I think it is very likely they draft another wing unless the get Okongwu. Cedi, Porter, Windler, McKinnie and Nance at times plus a lottery wing. Windler is going to need to play very well out of the gate because there is going to be more competition this year and the coach who was gaga over him is gone.

Last year we heard Porter might spend some time in the Gleague and Windler would be getting the most minutes. Now, Porter has jumped up to one of the top 10 in the class(maybe higher). Windler is going to need to come out playing the right way. He very well might, just saying his spot isn't reserved like it was last training camp.

I think Klay Thompson has like 15-20 pounds on Windler. Very strong perimeter defender.

Q: What's the best type of basketball play to run during the Covid-19 pandemic?

A: An isolation play. :chuckle:

The odds of Windler being as good as Klay are miniscule. He is much older as a rookie, doesn't really have the same sturdy frame. He probably has more athleticism though, and has good length. He's a better passer and ball handler probably. The fast high release and ability to shoot off screens is similar though. They are about the same size. Windler's BBIQ is high and he is truly ambidextrous, and is able to make passes with either hand and can actually straight line drive the ball.

He is still a total unknown in the NBA, but he has a lot of what you want from a high end roleplayer. His upside is likely limited by his age and frame. We will see, but the organization is still high on him, and I have trouble seeing how a shooter like him could totally bust unless his body just falls apart.

Also, Klay isn't quite Klay unless Curry is there. The expectation of Klay on our team right now would be different than as 1/2 of splash bros. That's the thing I am most interested about with Windler. Can he create his own offense at all? Klay doesn't do that, which is pretty much the only reason I don't consider him the best sg in the game. Like I have Beal over him for that reason.

I find it deplorable that people are criticizing Nance for his concerns. Who cares,if he plays for the Cavs, he has legitimate concerns about his health. It's like, fuck about his health they just want to see basketball.

This pandemic have shown me the stupidity and how people don't care about people with preexisting conditions in America. The amount of selfishness is mind boggling to me.

This^ x1000

It has also shown me how fragile (and outdated) our way of living is. This is a situation where if we are not careful (opening the economy to early) millions could die, but some people don't care about that, all they care about is profit. Like the people that are price gouging with masks right now.

My main problem is that people are saying,he plays for the Cavs, so his concern aint important or who cares about him and etc like his life aint important. You mean to tell me just because he plays for the Cavs,he shouldn't be concerned about his heath.

People were killing Rudy Gobert just two months ago about possibly transmitting the virus to his teammates yet they're criticizing a player that has a preexisting condition that's concerned about returning to play. What piss me off even more about these people they act like his life is less important to the players that's on playoff teams.

You'd think that after crushing the east since 2007 and having one of the NBA's greatest championship wins would change people's tune about the Cavs.

For whatever reason, people have this perception about the Cavs. I understand, the Cavs was horrible after Lebron left the first time but this current team is better than the teams when Lebron left.

On top of that,it does help that Lebron left the franchise twice.

People act like the organization never did anything before Lebron was drafted. They just ignored that the Cavs was one of the top teams in the late 80s and early 90s.

The current regime needs to change the perception though.I think we're a couple of pieces away of being a playoff team but we need to draft well, keep the core and sign free agents.

JJ Redick podcast indicates the Cavs season is most likely, but not necessarily, over:

As people in the Reddit comments noted, the 70 game regional sports network contract may still be a factor.

I'm not sure I like the play-in idea. Lower seeds have rarely done much in the NBA playoffs, and there are all sorts of risks with adding lots of basically unnecessary teams in.

There's not a lot of evidence to support that. We've won a lower percentage of games in year 1/2 post-LBJ this time.

What hurts the perception of the Cavs is that the last time we were solid (without LeBron) was the Fratello years when we were literally the slowest paced team in NBA history. So, even then nobody cared about us.

Wilkins's final year was probably our last hurrah of relevancy and that was almost 30 years ago at this point.

I don't like how these people carry this "We only won because of LeBron" view of the Cavs. You can literally say that about any other team that ever won a championship, strip them of their Curry's, Kawhi's, etc and they would be trash. We were 2 injuries away from back to back championships
