Waive JR sure, Stretch Knight, no fucking way.

WIth an owner willing to spend, you cant stretch anyone, it kills your cap space for years to come, look at the lakers who are losing 5 mill in cap because of stretching someone.

Make other moves to get under the luxury cap, but we cant stretch anyone, its just a bad move of desperation.
That's because the Lakers were stupid and stretched a guy when they planned to be huge spenders in FA in the near future.

It would take a strange set of circumstances for stretching one contract to have a material adverse effect on the Cavs plans during the next 3 seasons.

how soon before the Cavs get to the playoffs again ? 2 years ?
I would say the 20 to 21 season is possible. I think they think about making a run for Lavert as a UFA as the Nets May not want to max him out and we could work out a sign and trade. Honestly if they don’t trade for any impact vets and just stick to drafting players it may not be until the 21-22 season which is fine if the young core has been built the right way. I would much rather be patient and build the right way then reach and over pay for a vet that minimizes flexibility going forward. Next two drafts are going to be critical for sure.

Of course how good Garland becomes is going to be a huge factor in how fast they not only get back to the playoffs but the type of playoff team they become. The other factor is Sexton. Does he stay and become a long term part of the team or is he traded for a different promising young player if the back court does not work out?

Also there is a big difference between making the 8th seed like Detroit did with no upside vs a team that is on the rise with young talent.

The Cavs are years away. They look weaker this year than last year believe it or not. 20 or 21 are a impossibility. I mean, did you post that nonsense.

Depends on how they play on defense, if any of the guys break out defensively and if Beilein sinks or swims as a coach. IF he can really get the most out of a roster, I think they can go to the playoffs in 2022 or so like the Nets did.

How would you rank the current prospects and young vets on our roster? I'm only talking about guys 27 and under.

Here's my current take. I'm taking age into consideration here (listed).

Prospects (under 25)
#1 - Garland (19)
#2 - Sexton (20)
#3 - Porter (19)
#4 - Windler (22)
#5 - Osman (24)
#6 - Zizic (22)

Early vets (25-27)
#7 - Nance (26)
#8 - Clarkson (27)
#9 - Stauskas (25)
#10 - Blossomgame (25)

Everyone beyond this has pretty much no chance of having impact on our next window of contention. And I'm not considering guys like Chriss who are just awful.

We sure could use a hyper-talented big on our roster in the upcoming years. We need a top 3 pick to make a play for James Wiseman.

As it stands now, what’s the rotation?

Garland
Sexton
Cedi
Love
Thompson
Nance Jr
Clarkson

It’s be interesting to see what an upgraded coaching staff does for this group.

Only so much a coach can do to win games with this bunch in the modern NBA. You have some shooters but very lacking in defense, playmakers, or facilitators. (I guess Clarkson is a playmaker but...not exactly a good one)

We were told that Wyndler could not only be in the rotation from day one but could start. Eventually Porter will get minutes too.

—-1st unit—-
PG- Garland
PG- Sexton
SF- Osman
PF- Love*
C- Thompson*

—-2nd unit—-
PG- Delly*
SG- Clarkson*
SF- Windler
PF- Nance
C- Henson*/Zizic

The players with an * by their name could be traded during the season, so the lineup could look very different by seasons end.

If KPJ isn’t going to play, which is unlikely, at least to start the year, my hope is he gets some quality time in the G-league. Remember, this is a guy that didn’t even have a full freshman year at USC. He’s oozing talent, but he’s also oh so raw.

As of July 22nd, this is our roster:

Pure Centers:
  • Ante Zizic
Center/Forwards:
  • Kevin Love
  • Tristan Thompson
  • Larry Nance Jr
  • John Henson
Forwards/Guards:
  • Cedi Osman
Pure Guards:
  • Collin Sexton
  • Brandon Knight
  • Matthew Dellavedova
  • Jordan Clarkson
Rookies:
  • Darius Garland
  • Dylan Windler
  • Kevin Porter

The problem I'm seeing is the balance of this team (like the rest of you are seeing, as well...). Too many point guard-types and too many "only-in-the-post"-types. But we needed an influx of talent far more than balance because we have no business trying to reach the playoffs (by design). The guys we have at positions of great need (like small forward) have no business starting for great teams.

Kevin Love aside (for health reasons), we don't have any other all-stars, yet. And the ones who most likely could reach that next year are either unproven (Garland) or one-way (Sexton).

At least some of these guys will compete hard, or ride the pine. But it's not a great fit. But hey, that's why the expiring contracts are here for half the season (to see what we have going forward).
